Samsung Galaxy S - "3" in box top left disappeared?

Hi, I had a "3" in a box on the top left of my screen and it has disappeared on me - I think it was a "3" anyway in a green and white box, have checked manual and couldn't find what it stood for. Anyone tell me? Also, my reminders have stopped reminding me seemingly in tanden with the above disappearing. Any help would be…

I'm with 3 and just persumed its for them

Yes, 3 is the network.

Actually I switched off my phone and on again and then it "returned" along with my reminders.

Not sure what the issue is.
