The likes of lucozade and that taste nice but really its all pyschological, diluted orange with a pinch of salt does the exact same thing for you.

Have a Bpm Berry Red once or twice a week.
Have a lucozade every Sunday after mass.

Would have expected sugar or caffeine - how does salt work in terms of energy boosting?

Its not energy boosting really, its replaces whats lost during sweat. The main point is the sugar in the orange drink is as beneficial as your lucozades.

The main research we done was into the benefits each gives, powerade was a slight improvement but the rest were all similar to tap water mixed with orange/blackcurrant etc.

So Red Bull or whatever is no better than Miwadi!

What good does the salt do?

Red bull would be different altogether because of the caffeine content which will give you a rush.

When you sweat, and if you do sports and you get a bit of sweat on your lip, you'll taste salt. Thats because the sweat is removing electrolytes like sodium and potassium from your body that are essential to your body fluid. Fruit like a banana replaces the potassium, salt (sodium chloride) replaces the sodium.

Powerade has these added, as does Lucozade lite, but are no more beneficial than the water and miwadi.

    It's not just you :)

Caffeine tablets are the shizz though.

Miwadi + couple of spoons of sugar + teaspoon of salt + 200mg caffine = energy drink equal to anything on the market in terms of "energy" benefits.
 That's Disgusting, A pinch is enough to replace electrolytes!

Used to have 2 to 3 Lucozade's a day, not anymore though although i do miss there taste so bad.

How often do you normally consume energy drinks?

I'd only rarely have the one red bull and dark rum (with lime) if I'm out on a night and feeling a bit less energized then I think would be needed to stay up till home time but I know a few people who drink energy drinks on the regular.
I'd drink the odd coffee during the day to keep me alert if I had important work to do but that'd be it.
sugar and water do the same thing

Never, due to the fact that their taste is quite similar to that of urine.

At Kings of Concrete 2 years ago Monster were handing out free cans to everyone. I drank a total of 6 cans without any food for the day. I was a very sick boy :pac: I enjoy the odd RedBull though :D

Fairly regularly, the one I tend to drink the most is Monster, though occasionally I'll drink Rockstar or something.

Love Monster. Doesn't do much physically for me but definitely focuses the mind. Great buzz. Kind of want one now....

I drink at least two large tablespoons worth of instant coffee a day. Energy drinks on top of that depending on the task at hand, but not all the time. I wake up with flu like symptoms:(

Why the **** do you still drink them then?

And all you people sitting behind desks all day, every wonder why athletes don't drink them? Because they don't work, you get a sugar/caffeine high and then you crash. An apple + water and a bit of exercise will do the job ten times better than this artificial muck. A lack of energy is down to the mitochondria in your cells not working to their full potential. Exercise makes them work 100%.

If I'm at home, I'll drink a can anytime I'm working because at home I can only sleep about 5 hours per night 'cause of responsibilities at home and I work in a physically demanding job so it keeps me going for my shift.

If I stay in my boyfriend's house, I'd drink 2 cans a day easily. Terrible to drink that much, but I like the taste of it tbh.

Fair enough, no problem with that. But when people expect them to perform miracles it bugs me. They're ridiculously unhealthy

True. Sleep > caffeine. It's the only drug apart from alcohol that I actually use, so could be worse I guess. It does **** up your sleep patterns something mighty though. Moderation is key.

Energy drinks can be tame. Red Bull is only 80mg per can. An average large coffee could reach well over 300mg.

I might have one every few months, trying to delude myself into thinking it will help me kick a hangover - despite that fact that I think this:

Is it just me or do energy drinks not work?

They do nothing for me. Any improvements in my hungover state are by the natural wearing off of the alcohol, sleep and water.

    The sweetness is sickening too.

Have one or two a week, I like the taste of them + they sometimes give me a boost when I'm tired/hungover.
