Young people don't see it that way and history has shown us that one set of gangsters replace another in this country. Politics is about lies and deception for many a year. My own children refused to cast their vote in the last election for that very reason despite my pleas to them.

Its about trying to see through the lies and deception and decide for yourself who is credible.

To create a statue, you have to keep chipping away till something eventually if formed that you come close to liking.

If you keep your tools (your hands!) in your pockets and don't use them, nothing changes and your left with status quo - and don't be/act surprised when nothing changes!

Get your hands out of your pockets - keep chipping (voting) away and sooner or later, you know what?
You might find something later that resembles something you like.

Don't do the work - you will always get nothing or nowhere for sure.

Very true . but im the business model person. . how long would i have to keep voting to get what i like? but when you vote and you do get what you want its like you own them. you expect things from them. as everyone does . you want lower taxes. better infrastructure. on and on. by not voting you have no say let them do what they want you keep your nose out ask for nothing and all is good. if you want stuff done become successful make your money and invest it in what you want. dont rely on others. Dont be relying on the government to make jobs you make the jobs. if you have to leave the country to get where you want to do and come back and be your own government. this is why i wont vote cause i just dont want to know them. and i would be inclined to use their services seen as i have had a say there mine aswell. least at the end of the day i can say i dont use them. so they cant pin me to anything.

Its exactly the same reason that many young people stopped attending Mass. They don't trust the clergy after all the scandals. The state of politics is worse though.

Ehem, I'm a young person, I don't see disillusionment with my peers, they just don't care, they don't see what's so important about voting, none of us have ever seen a presidential election, this is the first time a political party other than FF was in office in my memory, most people my age just don't understand that voting serves a purpose. That's nothing to do with the current political situation, certainly nothing to do with your BELIEF that one set of gangsters replaces another, its to do with the fact that anything political was an absolute constant when we were growing up.

Not really, in my experience most of us just don't believe what they preach, the scandals aren't our generation, we're quite removed from them.

Apart from laws and taxes your plan is perfect.

Should you choose to abstain from the democratic process, that choice is yours.
The State will reach into most every aspect of your life regardless of that stance.

Can't say I'm sorry to see that Pat Cox has run into hardship trying to get the nod from Fine Gael.
The man switches parties like jumpers just so that he can continue his self-opportunist agenda.

That may be so for me yeah? That's why I'm posting on this thread of a political nature? About a potential election candidate? Because I see no point in the process? No use in my vote? Don't agree with me, quantify it, don't just make a cheap shot out of an old line which quite obviously does not fit the circumstance.

I know my peer group, they churn out lines like the church scandals were "dreadful" and "them politicians are all the same" but its just repetition of media slants, they weren't going to church before the scandals came to light and they didn't give a crap about voting before the recession.

I hope your correct, though I've an uneasy feeling Mairead McGuinness could prove most popular with ploughing championship aficionados.

I will stick with my own opinions until i have evidence to change them and as yet i have not.

Norris is on Prime Time tonight.

It will be interesting to see how the interview goes for him!

Frontline? I could be wrong but I don't think he will be. He's addressing three councils today and will probably be in Waterford when the show is on.

Interesting? Don't hold your breath. He has been quoted as saying that he will not be discussing you know what any more. Why is he going on? Because he cannot control the, er, urge :) ........ to be in the spotlight.

Hello!!! There ARE other issues you know in this country that can be raised and highlighted?
...O' yes but lets bring it all back to sexual innuendo again of course - because thats the only level we want to operate in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,943 ✭✭✭wonderfulname

Or perhaps in an attempt to refocus the media's interest in his campaign towards actual issues? That's kinda what any politician would do, I don't know why you feel such a need to make something especially negative out of everything the man does.

They were all invited, I presume he will show up for it as the programme has alot of viewers. They probably wont really address the controversy tho

Tonight's RTE Frontline on #aras11 - Micheal D Higgins, Fergus Finlay, Kathleen O'Meara & Mary Davis on the panel http://t.co/iKRz1Se

Strange they're doing it tonight when they knew Norris wouldn't be available. Not the only one missing anyway.

This is just going to be a platform for Pat Kenny to try influence the voting public isn't it?
