Do You Care?

I was just thinking about this.

Do you actually care how you do in the Junior Cert? Will you be disappointed if you don't do as well as you could? Or will you just be happy with respectable results?

I don't care what I got and I don't want to know really. I'm not going to look at my results at all.

I do care quite a bit, but only as much as ive cared about summer exams before, see, my family is quite 'academic' and i have a fair bit of pressure on me to do well, and ive always done well in school (my first ever C was in irish in the mocks) and (this is going to sound fairly odd/bad/mean) but my grandparents (who im very close to) told me they would be dissapointed in me if i dont get at lease a B in irish, and my parents said the same thing in relation to me getting any C's, or a B in maths, history, science, art or english - i.e i have to get an A in subjects i want to do for the L.C.... I hate my family sometimes.. :/

That is very unfair. My parents expect me to do well, but only because I'm smart. They don't put any real pressure on me and don't make me study.

Interesting topic to make, it will be cool to see peoples genuine feelings...

Just to let you know, I personally couldn't give two flying ****s if I failed everything. I guess I can understand why some people do wish for excellent grades, but I'm not like that. I never really get satisfaction from self-achievement, but rather I like to see people I like succeed and be happy of their success. I always hate the way you see girls screaming upon receiving exam results, i mean, how narcisstic can one individual be? They really should just stfu. People should really ground themselves. I would react to straight A's as much as I would all D's or lower.

The only reason I try to do well has nothing to do with me, I just really like to please my parents. I hate disappointing them with anything, as it makes me somewhat ashamed. I know that sounds really strange, it's quite hard to explain. Just like seeing them happy I guess. I don't think I'm going to do bad, I just don't care.

I understand how unimportant it is and didn't study too much, but of course I want to do well.

For who, though? The Junior Cert won't make you a better person. I agree with desire. Its the same with my parents: its fair enough, they want me to achieve, but who the hell are they to be pissed off at me if I get bad results. They just assume Im going to be a rocket scientist or something one day. Even if you learned everything off from the book, that won't necessarily make you intelligent. You can refine intelligence, but I think you are born with it.

Btw im not saying i fall into that category, just my view on it.

I feel like as the exams have gone on, I care less. :p I want to do well, and I know I'll do relatively well like, not excellently, but it'll be grand. I didn't exactly kill myself studying or anything like it so it's not like I'll be immensely disappointed if I don't do as well as I'd like to. I didn't put the work in, so I shouldn't really do amazingly. So yeah, I'm going to be curious about my results, especially as there's not been one subject so far that I can say for definite what my grade was, but after a few days of getting my results I'll probably barely think of them, and I'll just look towards the leaving cert and hopefully put in work for it. :o I do sometimes imagine the feeling of looking at my results and seeing that I did very well...but hey, there's always Leaving Cert, and I know which one I'd rather excel in. :)

I dont think its important and i dont care how i do in some subjects- Religion, science, woodwork... But i do care about others, maths especially, i really want an A :O and also theres a competitive side, i say i dont care if i do worse than my brother (5 A's) but really i want to smash that to pieces :L Also my mam is giving money bigger and bigger for each A :)

I mean as in for the leaving cert and stuff, because ive grown up doing well in everything and im used to stressing out before exams :L
I suppose you could call it long term preparation for the leaving cert :pac: They want me to start on the L.C course during TY next year too :(

Do I care? Nah, not really. I'd like to do well in English though. Just one thing that came to my mind now. I'd like to do it for my younger brother, so he'll have some to look up to.

I won't fail anyway :D . I think I'll get pretty good results, as they say I'm "a bright boy" . I suppose if I studied a little bit I could have gotten some As, but I didn't see the point.

Indiego, I'm kinda sorry for you:(.

I want to do well of course but not too bothered. I havent been able to get any motivation to study over the last few months even though i know i should be. Just as long as i don't fail anything and get mostly B's and C's ill be happy and I'm fairly confident thats what will happen.

Your parents or teachers? If it's your parents, then wow... If mine even suggested that to me I'd live somwehere else. It's brilliant how you seem to be such a 'straight-edged' individual.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of TY though? I'm a bit sick of school's "systematic" teaching method so a year to live in the real world will be nice.

I guess no one really puts me under pressure but myself so thats not a problem, my parents just want me to get all honours. Would it be great to get all a's? yeah, but in the long run I dont see myself caring that much. I reckon I'll do well but if I dont get what I'm aspiring for chances are within a week I won't care and neither will anyone else for that matter :)

'They' as in my parents, who have convinced my teachers to agree its 'the best thing to do' -_-

What do you mean by 'straight-edged'? :pac:

Yeah, It does kind of defeat the purpose, but the only reason i'm doing TY is because otherwise id be 16 doing the leaving, which wouldnt be too nice :/

It is for many people the first thing in life they do entirely on their own. No one to blame if it goes badly, which means it is frightening.

Far easier to say 'I didn't bother studying, it's only the Junior, I don't care so I didn't try' than 'I tried my very best and I didn't do very well'.

People will generally do better than they think as the exam is designed that way, but there will always be some people who will not do well and it can be a big struggle for them to overcome the blow to self esteem, no matter how many times they say they don't care.

Just a bit of advice for those not giving a "flying f**k", now the junior cert isnt that important and when you look back on it you'll be wondering what all the fuss is about so dont get too stressed over it but just remember, (well this was the way it was in my school), your junior cert results determined what classes we were put in for our Leaving Cert and that turns out to be very important. If you dont care about failing and get an E in English you'll have a hard time convincing the school to put you into an honours class for the leaving cert. I did extremely well in my JC and was put in all honours classes for my leaving, with gave me the option of dropping down if i wasnt up for it, if you are put in all pass classes then it'll be very difficult to go up a class for your leaving.

Just something to keep in mind when you arent bothered and dont care about failing when you are perfectly capable of doing well but just arent arsed because its the JC. Still dont get too stressed over it and just do your best.

    I'm sixteen now?

NOO, too late for that :P . I already chose my classes, and teachers insisted I go into the "ambitious" groups. Overall I'm a good student but lets say I sometimes find it hard to pass on my knowledge:p.

The problem with todays young people is that they don't really know what to do with their lives. Facebook or XBOX won't get you work. Well, they'll learn.

P.S - How is that age possible Indiego ? :D

Thats lame. Lol are you 13? I thought I was young being born in August '96!!

Straight-edged broadly speaking just means a do-gooder, 'unpoisoned' by sin, if you wish to be dramatic over it. I get the impression, anyway. Take it as a compliment, it's a good thing really. A 30 second Google search will give you a more specific definition of what it means (its also a social grouping).

Heres the wikipedia article on it

Interesting topic. At the beginning of the year, I felt the need to prove myself to my teachers as I had got in my fair share of trouble in second year.

I felt motivated and although I don't study all that much, I felt driven for good results.

I think I surprised everyone, including my parents after the mocks, and all As became an achievable goal.

However since the beginning of June (winning student of the year) my interest has dwindled and I just want to do decently. I always feel the negative attention around high academic achievement, since my quizzing days in primary school.

I would like to keep my eventual results as confidential as I can, whether I do well or badly, although I will disclose details to friends and family. I even considered throwing the exams at some stages to avoid the drama associated with results.

I want to do well because I know I can (I've just always been good at school) but I'm not that stressed about it in the same way... hav'nt done that much studying:)

I don't get why people wear leaving early like a badge of honour though I mean some people write quickly and that's grand but some (like me) write lots and slowly. Meh, I'll just never understand it...

I don't know why, but I've left early in every exam. I just don't like staying until the end. I know it's better to... but I don't know, I'm weird!

As much as ye all hate to hear it, but the JC prepares you for the Leaving.
You might think you're 'too cool' to care at this stage and don't give a toss about your results - guarantee you'll get caught up in the excitement and care.

If you really didn't care, you wouldn't turn up for the exams. Its simple as.
