BF unhappy with GF allegedly aborting erects billboard accusing her of murder

I know its a sensitive topic, and he has a right to free speech, but his poor other half :( Its taking your viewpoint a little far...me thinks...

(Reuters) - A New Mexico man who said he was upset that his girlfriend had an abortion bought a highway billboard and accused her of killing their child.

The billboard, in south-central New Mexico, shows 35-year old Greg Fultz holding the outline of a baby in his arms. It reads "This Would Have Been A Picture of My 2-month-Old Baby If the Mother Had Decided to NOT Kill Our Child!"

Fultz's ex-girlfriend calls the billboard harassment and invasion of privacy, and has taken him to court under the New Mexico Family Violence Protection Act. But Fultz says he's exercising his First Amendment rights, said his attorney, Todd Holmes.

"Citizens have the right to express their speech through any media and he chose a billboard," Holmes told Reuters on Tuesday. "We feel a billboard fits within the First Amendment even if it's offensive to some."

A petition filed by Fultz' ex-girlfriend said that Fultz had a pattern of stalking and harassment, including posting "intimate cyber shots of me from one of our cyber dates," she wrote. The domestic abuse petition also requested that the billboard be removed and online harassment stopped.

An attorney for the ex-girlfriend could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

Fultz, who runs a computer services business, had the billboard put up in mid-May.

In a hearing last week, a judge ordered the billboard to come down by mid-June. Holmes said he plans to file a motion to keep the billboard up, but he said his client is ready to face prison if necessary.

"That's how passionately he feels about protecting his free speech," Holmes said.

According to Holmes, when Fultz and his girlfriend, who was then 18, found out they were going to have a baby, she wanted to get married. Fultz refused, Holmes said, and during a church camping trip there was a "discussion about an ultimatum. Either you marry me or I'm not going to have this baby type of thing."

The girlfriend later flew to Wisconsin for work and when she returned she was no longer pregnant, Holmes said. She did not explain what happened, but Fultz suspected she had an abortion, Holmes said.

"I know it's her body," Holmes said. "But his statement is more along the lines of 'Hey, you know what? Dads have a decision in the process too."

New Mexico's Right to Life Committee initially endorsed the billboard, but has withdrawn its support because it received a number of emails from people who said Fultz' ex-girlfriend had a miscarriage, not an abortion, said executive director Dauneen Dolce.

Her identity is not disclosed on that billboard. How can it be an invasion of privacy?

Anyone who knows the man and has met/or heard of his wife through him/family/friends etc... could put two and two together. Not a direct invasion of privacy but still uncomfortable for the wife nonetheless.

Whatever your personal feelings on the subject, that's crossing the line. It's like the two exes fighting over who keeps their mutual friends, but on an embarassingly broad scale.

Would have been a weird looking baby – probably just as well.

How come it's always the people who look like they'd do these kind of things who do these kind of things? He should be thanking his stars everyday that an ugly, frankly crazy 35 year old blob like him, managed to get it on with an 18 year old girl in the first place!

It's clearly not his, it's jet black!

It's overstepping the mark i think, he doesn't even know for sure that she had an abortion.
If she definitely did and he's not happy with it, then he's entitled to tell whoever he wants. But this is just tastless and vulgar (says the man who made the black baby joke!) But you get the drift!

What he looks like should be irrelevant.

Whatever your views on abortion, that's a dick move. She has family and friends who obviously know who her boyfriend is, so nothing about this is anonymous. The guy is a complete prick.

Domestic rows should all be conducted by Billboard advertising.

I must try to get my “Why do you never empty the dishwasher” billboard erected later.

It's a tough old world. I mean, who'd want to be on either side of this debate? Here's a guy clearly grieving the loss of what could have been....and grief can make you do crazy ass stuff. Then there's a young girl just trying to put the pieces back together.

There's no right or wrong imo when it comes to abortion, everyone hurts.

No doubt. But you maintain dignity and don't do a stupid, petty, pathetic thing like go out of your way to publicly humiliate your partner.

Who defines the "within reason" though? What's reasonable to me, might shock and outrage you. I'm glad that, in a country with so many fundamentalist Christians as the US, free speech is cherished. In fairness to them, even the fundies in America seem to respect free speech, which is more than can be said about them on this side of the pond (Gerry Springer show etc).

He's 35. She's just gone 18. They spent much of their time chatting online, and this has extended to him stalking and harrassing her online.

Yeah, I'm going for the, "This guy is a complete creep" line. <insert forever alone pic here>

if she had just turned 17 this would be a hole different ball game altogether

While this might have been a step too far, he did not invade her privacy if he did not reveal her identity.

I do think we would do well to remember that the baby was his as much as hers and he is clearly grieving. Calling him a dick and so forth is imo not necessary. He is suffering too.

also what if she did get an abortion? It could be justified as a prolife choice for her :D 1.Dont get abortion: Gets stuck with weird creep who posts itimit pictures an converations on the web for everyone to see and have an unplaned pregnancy and family. 2.Get abortion: regained controle of destiny and ditched the creep in the process. Sweet!

People can still be dicks whilst grieving. There's really no excuse for his actions- it's just revenge. Revenge on an 18 y/o girl who wanted to marry him. Any sympathy I'd have for him evaporated when I saw his actions.

He posted a picture of himself and said that the baby would be two months old. So that pretty much identifies who the mother is to all his/her friends and family.

She is suffering too. So being singled out on a billboard to her friends and family is going to hurt a hell of a lot. Plus, as stated, she says she miscarried. We only have one persona word against anothers. So the non-dick thing to do is for them to sort it out amongst themselves and not advertise it to the world.

I honestly can't see how what he did was anything but a dick thing to do.

That girl had a lucky escape, miscarriage or not.

Now I wonder is he on POF :pac:

I wonder if she had the baby and he wanted nothing to do with it would she have revealed his identity and went after him for child support...it's a funny old world.

This lad doesn't deserve to have kids if he treats someone like that. It's the woman's choice. As far as I'm concerned a father should only have legal rights after birth. This creep should be given a beating for raising the poor girl's profile like this, just look at what happened to the abortionists last year in the states.

Poor baby also would have been very young...if not murdered. Billboard is a bit overboard, but I understand the guys feelings. I'd hate to know that my GF/Wife aborted my unborn son/daughter without even consulting me, and without any good (medical) reason.

Regardles of our stance on abortion, it should be a decision by both parents. Each had a 50% responsibilty for creating the fetus and each should have a 50% responsibility for keeping/aborting it.

The woman is the only one who has to carry the baby inside of her, the one who has to feed the child with her body, the one who has to undergo the pain of giving birth, the one who has to undergo hormones wreaking havoc on her, etc., therefore I'd say it's woman 51% and man 49%.

They may have both created it but the share up to the birth is not equal, not by a long shot.
