    Hi there

Quick enough one I hope. Situation is this - about to have our first child - paid money to go semi-private with Holles st back in November. Was told at the time we could claim back when the baby was born. My partner is covered under her Dad's VHI, I paid the money to Holles st.

Do I claim it back under my tax? (As a Health Expense online)
    or
Does he claim the money back from VHI?

    Thanks

Most of the time maternity hospitals have a direct payment setup meaning no money changes hands, but if your partner is covered, then her dad has to make the claim on her behalf I think. If it is only a certain % qualifying, then whatever balance is left can be claimed on your medical expenses, but this is only 20% of what ever is left unfortunately.

you claim back from your health insurer first , if that is unsuccessful , they will inform you to claim it back on your tax at year end (actually you have to wait until around feb , after the P60 are issued)
