RTÉ funded the programme of a British fascist!

Here is the proof that RTÉ have bank rolled, given credibility and refused to allow any real critique of a "factual programme", which is essentially a
narrow-minded and ignorant British propaganda effort, part funded by the BBC, to airbrush Irish history and British-Irish relations.

The series slated by Irish viewers, and ridiculed by Irish historians as pompous, self-serving, jingoist (for the British) and ignorant, was presented by
"Irish journalist" Fergal Keane (who is an officer of the British empire no less).

An article he wrote for the UK Independent back in 2001 has resurfaced and intimates his British fascist leanings.

He claims how Britain must crush the self determined Ireland. (Unapologetically oblivious to the conflict caused in the North as a consequence of British expansion and violence!)

" I have never had anything but loathing for the creed of Gaelic nationalist exceptionalism."

    http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/fergal-keane--ireland-has-paid-a-high-price-for-its-dishonest-mythmaking-632796.html

"A vast pasture of sacred cows has been dispatched to the abattoir and only a few green fascists are pining. In a generation or two even those pathetic remnants of muscular nationalism will have been consigned to history."

Referring to Ireland as populated by "green fascists", can only make
Mr Keane "pine" for the days of the British murder machine, which he has always insinuated kept Ireland down, and in check.

The Pax Britannia, according to Keane, and British culture was superior and more powerful than Irish "exceptionalism", and Irish independence should not nor never have been tolerated.

No, he referred to a small number of halfwit cavemen, the type who murdered a young Irishman not so long ago.

So Keane's grandparents in the RIC and India, Afghanistan , Iraq,
South Africa or whatever got killed trying to kill others for Britain so they're the terrorists?

Because Britain has the right to unquestionably occupy the Éire? With their cavemen? (Keane looked like a caveman when he was on RTÉ)

If an Irish person had far right wing opinions like that, they'd be labelled fascists.

    Good for them.

I couldn't care less if they funded a programme of a British man wiping his arse with the Irish flag.

i love your version of history and education.

"The story of Ireland is vivid, exciting and immensely varied. It is far more than the sum of old clichés and myths which set the Irish as a people who were prisoners and victims of history"

id say that really pissed you off, someone saying that you might be wrong and perhaps a bit thick. people like you NEED to be called out on your stupidity and lack of true education.

read 'Season of Blood' or even one of the essays from it and come back to me. Fergal Keane has a far greater authority then you will ever have on the subject of hatred and has seen exactly what it can do first hand. hes bang right about you and your ilk and you and those like you need to be deleted from this country. your collective chip on your shoulders costs lives, money, families and opportunities and its about time someone stood up to you and all the other 'ra heads' and the like and told you to shut the f**k up and sit the f**k down and stop dragging us backwards due to your misdirected anger.

I thought it was a very interesting series. A bit dismayed that anyone would be so pissed about it. Wasn't the whole point of it to challenge the romanticised view of history which is held by many? I certainly didn't see it as a whitewash of British wrongdoings.

    That's because it certainly wasn't a whitewash.

I thought it was very good. As far as I could see it did not airbrush out various English atrocities. But because it did not further propagate the romanticised view that many Irish have of their history, the shinners hate it!

    Thanks.

WTF, do you work for him or something? Calm down. Wow anyone else here in the 'ra'?

His article in the UK Independent (which everyone is avoiding) shows his dancing to the tune of the Britsh far right.

Incidentally, Keane and what he has seen and made a lot of money out of,
:D... with his far greater authority, does not seem to have any degrees in Irish history, probably why the BBC were happy for him to present the feckin show!:)

Embracing and celebrating our part in the British empire (a suggestion in the show and apologising for our democracy) isn't something that should be romanticised.

In fairness having watched some of the programme he did paint the British as D1cks to us in the past. He definatly didnt white wash history. They were painted as sectarian, racist and murderers. It was only small issues that he pointed out some irish brought on themselves.

I agree with your posts ITT, but it's "I couldn't care less". Sorry - a personal irk of mine.
It's usually ignorant Americans that say "could care less", which is actually the opposite of what they mean; they'd realise if they took 1 second to actually think about the logic of the words they're using.
