Anyone any ideas what this car's scrap value would be? Failed N.C.T on emmissions but the rest of the car is in reasonably good nick.

Sounds a waste to scrap if that's all that's wrong with it....

Have your replaced th lambda sensor?
Have you used diptane to help clean the engine for the emssion test?

    I'd bet anything it's a 1.4 petrol.

Ya, replaced lamda and put it through a week later and emmissions went into orbit. They were about 5 times worse. It's burning a lot of oil, like 1litre for every few hundred miles. There's white smoke coming from exhaust, the exhaust rattles, the car chugs and idles rough and the electrics are screwy - i.e: ventilation comes and goes, car locks/unlocks itself, boot light doesn't go off and the dashboard clocks are a bit funky - they weren't working on the day of the test but the tester didn't seem to notice.

1.6 Octavia. Why, is there similar problems with the 1.4? The 1.6's are known for failing on high emmissions.

Octavia. 89000 miles. Was parked up for a year and a half and that seems to have harmed the engine. It has been suggested that the Cat converter is gone, the throttle body, the maf sensor, could be the E.C.U, the fuse box may need replacing and perhaps the pistons or valves are damaged...nothing wholly definite but I think that's a good reason to scrap it. A shame really, cos it looks a fine car and in spite of all that drives quite well. oh and a friend reckoned the head gasket is gone which may explain why the white smoke goes away after being driven for an hour.

As Scrap metal, its worth €200 per ton. That's your base line. It should be worth more for parts!!

hmm... Galway metal only offered 80euro per ton!

There are some great parts. Gearbox is good, body is good, chassis is good, battery is new, lights are perfect, brakes are perfect.........know anywhere in Galway that would go better than 80euro a ton?
