Trek 7.3 fx or specialized sirrus, can't decide!!

Hi All,
I'm in the process of selecting a hybrid under the btw scheme, looks as tho I'm down to deciding between a Trek 7.3 fx or specialized sirrus. I have not owned a bike since my teens over 20 yrs ago:o so all the jargon means nothing to me and I'm looking for advice. Is the Sirrus a well known brand? I also saw a Merida speeder and was also impressed but trying to narrow it down even further. Please help, I can't wait to get cracking. Sirrus is about e100 dearer!

They're both well known and reputable brands. Ask in the shop to go for a spin and the one that you'll feel more comfortable is your bike.

Thanks, maybe thats the easiest way to make up my mind. Ur man in the shop has also promised to throw in 60euro worth of accessories, what should I ask for as I have no idea?

Padded shorts

Inner tube, tyre levers and pump are a must have. A good U lock with cable for the front wheel if you're leaving her outside...

Have cycled about 100 miles on th
e trek 7.3 and found it a fast comfortable bike. A fella in work had one for a charity race and went from cork to limerick on it and found it perfect. Also i always found that with well know brand names, that you can sell them on easier if you ever want to change

Both bikes are good, the trek looks better in larger sizes. Make sure you get a good lock/set. I use a kryptonite EVO on the rear wheel & frame with a cable to the loose bits. That'll use €60. A track pump is more usefully than a mini pump unless you intend to lug it around, I suggest a Joe blow, €25. No need for padded shorts unless you are planning 100km min round trip. Helmet is personal choice, I choose not to wear one. A good light rain jacket is worth while and if your journeys are more than a few km in distance I suggest wearing sweat wicking cloths.

Thanks All, settled on the Sirrus after taking both for a test drive:) C'ant wait to collect it and get cracking. A decent lock is a must, saw a guy trying to rob a bike only today, hacksaw and other tools with him for the job, and on a busy street in Limerick. Someone approached him and i did'nt hang around. What would I pay for a really secure one? Any other accessories/spares other than, helmet, lights, lock, carrier and tool kit in a saddle bag that I am likely to need. Thanks again for all your help!
