Hoping to do the 200 and am monitoring the weather closely. Latest Met Eireann forecast shows dry weather lighter southwesterly winds and 14-16 degrees for Sunday. Fingers crossed!!!

Looking forward to this, whatever about the weather, so long as its not lashing at the start I don't mind. And the wind has gotta be on my back at some point! Say hello if you see me, I'll be the cheeky fecker on the white focus cayo drafting off all the larger guys

What kit clotheswise should one bring for this?

I was thinking Bib Shorts, SS Boards Jersey, Vest, Breathable Rain Jacket.

I should probably buy some overshoes in the interim? perhaps some arm warmers?

Anything else that might be needed if the weather is inclement and the wind is blowing up in the Wicklow Mountains?

The long range met forecast shows a bit of a mix of weather. Not bad starting out, with the worst of the rain and some wind in the afternoon. If it pans out as forecast, it'll be cool, dry and calm for the start of the day, with rain and moderate wind (~25k) hitting in the afternoon. And of course the wind is pointing the wrong way, but what else would you expect ;)

For me anyway, dry feet are important, so I'll be wearing my waterproof sealskinz socks. The arm and leg warmers, and skull cap all weigh zilch and may be appreciated later in the day so they're also coming. Not so sure about the overshoes, might wear them based on a forecast closer to the day, long term forecasts are like reading tea leaves.

If as advised on Accuweather that it could be raining all day then I would strongly advise AGAINST a rain jacket.

With 8 hours of rain you will get wet. Wet under a rain jacket particularly on descents is a recipe for freezing. This has happened to me too many times in past.

Tight fitting jersey and tight gilet.

SS Jersey, vest, bibs, armwarmers, sealskin socks, spare socks in a sandwich bag*, overshoes (maybe, they always leak anyway), pocket rocket jacket in my jersey.

Usually end up not wearing the jacket unless it's really lashing for the reasons ROK ON outlines above. Sweatbag on top of damp clothes = freezing me, especially if I stop.

*Sandwich bags are the best thing ever

will be in swords Cc S/s Jersey, shorts, gilet and arm warmers think will be ok over a moisture wicking base layer should do the trick. Sandwich bags for phone, laser and socks.

Buff, bib shorts, s/s jersey, arm warmers - possibly overshoes & knee warmers - and a rain jacket rolled up in the back pocket.

oh fogot to mention tons of chamois cream most importantly

Probably going to do a little shopping this week. My current dhb bib shorts seem to have stitching that's a little "harsh" on longer spins, I didn't notice until I started doing longer rides in them this summer. My winter 3/4 lengths are far more comfortable but way too warm for use on the 200.

I can convert my winter jersey to a gilet, but it'll be far too warm as well. Tempted to wear s/s jersey with long sleeve baselayer and just roll up the sleeves as the day gets warmer. If the morning is anything like 8am this morning, I'll also have glove liners on for the first couple of hours. Was chilly enough today.

Luckily enough I pass my parents' house at Donard, so I might leave some stuff there to either change or ditch any excess clothing on the way through.

    One scoop or two....:D
Would be handy if it came in little packs so you could 'top up' on the road.
Or would that be just too much for the gentle people of Wicklow to endure?

    ss jersey and shorts

    the only way to cycle.

(and shades even if it is raining :p)

where is there a nice easy 2km loop on the course, I'd rather do the Wicklow 220 than thae Wicklow 194 tbh, will be starting about 4km early at the windgates so only need another 1.5-2

Lads come on and harden the flock up! All this messing over what to wear and bring with you - has nobody been out on a bike before? Reminds me of girls getting ready for a night out! Man up men! If you get wet you'll dry. If you get cold you'll warm up. If you get hungry, then eat!

You can cycle round the car-park before heading home.

In that case I'm going naked*, with some raw steak clenched between my teeth.

It will be special spanish steak of course.

    * I may opt for blue body paint if it's cold.

Update on the official website regarding the surface around Slieve Maan

Although the roads from Donard to Slieve Maan are still not in great condition, there has been a considerable improvement in the last fortnight. We do not need to make alterations, but urge caution on the resurfaced sections - particularly on the downhill stretch at Aghavannagh (Just before Slieve Maan)

We have erected distance markers on both courses at 10Km intervals. They are not pin-point accurate and are mainly intended to act as reference points for those who need to use either of our emergency phone lines on the day.

    Happy Days!

I wonder if the considerably improved section is the same as the one on which a boardsie fractured his collarbone at the weekend...

it's the N81 to Donard road that I'm not liking tbh, it was in tatters last time I cycled it, far worse than anything after it.

I went (drove) down it last weekend, it's still pretty bad. The only thing is that it's undulating without any major downhills or turns, so the state of the road will mainly just be irritating. The only bit to watch out for is about 200m before the church, you come downhill into a corner, where they've laid....gravel. Awesome. I wouldn't be surprised if there were marshals there on the day warning people to slow down.

Latest Met Eireann forecast suggests an early start is essential with rain rolling in during the PM and also the wind coming around to the south and strengthening. Crossing SM and SE by 1400 advisable.
