Based In Prague: Where Should I Visit?

I'm based in Prague for the summer and I'm wondering where I can visit that's affordable while I'm here. My job is covering my cost of living here, so trips will be coming from savings so I can't go too mad.

I was living in Berlin before I came here, and I've been to Munich and Austria, but I haven't been east of here in Europe before.

I'll be going to Hradec Kralové for a music festival next month so that's covered. Also in Czech Republic I've been told to go to Brno, and I have a mild interest in visiting Plzen, mainly because of its fame, but I hate Urquell!

I want to go to Bratislava, but no-one's told me anything good about it.

Anywhere I shouldn't miss while I'm here? And any suggestions on the cheapest ways to travel would be much appreciated.

You could take the train to Budapest for a weekend or something, it takes about 7.5hrs from Prague to Budapest but would be a hell of a lot cheaper than the €200+ you'll pay on Malevs or Czech's duopoly on the route. Budapest is a lovely city with beautiful women, although the population in general is quite depressed and rather than welcoming tourists they despise them. Lake Balaton in Hungary would be worth a visit too as everything I've heard about it is fairly positive.

Thanks for the reply, but to be honest I think Budapest will be a bit out of my range. I was looking for more shorter-distance options, and maybe one or two further ones. It'll be mostly 2-3 day trips that I'll be doing.

I am considering inter-railing Former Yugoslavia at the end of the summer though so if anyone has any must-sees on that route, please throw them in

Brno is ok, not amazing and quite small but some parts of the city centre are nice. It is worth a visit if you are at a loose end, I wouldn't say you're missing anything by not going there tho. I loved Bratislava, small enough city but really beautiful and good fun. Try some bryndzové halušky while you are there, looks horrible but is really nice!

Bratislava is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. Once there, you can easily hop over to Vienna as well (in case you have not been there yet). Plzen is supposed to be extremely ugly. I have not been there myself but I was told by friends who visited it.
