see that's a slightly different question then. but yeah I don't think for me it'd make a difference.

I didnt know, I was told the person dying might need a kidney and a part of my liver (apparently they take like half the liver then it grows back)

I said no but then a week later it turned out it was too late that nothing could help him.

I met the person twice in my life so didnt feel bad about it at all.

Totally agree with that one! I have 2 kids, so in a heartbeat, wouldn't have to think twice about it. I have 3 nephews and 1 niece, and again in a heartbeat, and my Dad, my sisters and my brother, no question at all!

    Anyone else, probably not!

Id give it serious thought, and for immediate family and 2 or 3 friends, i probably would, but distant relatives, friends.......probably not.

So you'll only donate your organs to immortals? Seems a bit redundant.

That is not what I said and you know it!!!

OP posted that relative was dying of cancer.

My stance is that if it was cancer of the kidneys and a transplant would some how save their life, then my answer would be yes. If they were going to die from cancer either way, then my answer would be no.

Also if this or any relative was aged (70+) my answer would also most likely be no.

For my brothers and sisters who are all parents of young/teenage children or indeed any of these children, then I would most definitely donate, without hesitation.

There's one person I would give a kidney to right now. Definitely not in a situation like you op, what a thing to ask of someone so young who is really too young to be making such a decision and **** being closely related if havent much of a relationship with that person.

I'd give anyone a kidney if it was the difference between life and death. Family, friend or stranger. You fcukin cold blooded lizard people.

My father had a successful kidney transplant last year so I'd have to definitely, of course I would give a kidney if it was compatible.

The person and their family who donated to my Dad will never know how much they changed all of our lives by their unselfish act.......
Wow, you took the words right out of my mouth! Except replace "father" with "mum".

I tried to give her my kidney but she wouldn't take it!

I remember a relitive was dying of cancer and I was asked would i give a kidney - I was young aroung 16-17 and although we were closely related we werent close and I said no!

So would you give a kidney to a family member?

Not sure about the credibility of your post op. Can't imagine it's even legal to ask a minor to donate any organ. That said I would do it for someone I love, be that family or friend.

I don't have much knowledge about giving or receiving any body part, can someone tell me is there any after affects of donating a kidney? I presume there is, but is it serious?

I would without a doubt donate a kidney to any family member or Friend, there are some people close to my heart that I would die for, so donating a kidney would not be something I would even have to think about.

Really you would? Get yourself down to the hospital so, there are people dying on transplant lists.

Pain...but they've got drugs for that.Otherwise, you'll live,(we hope,as you can't have your old kidney back)
Straightforward operation,a few weeks off work,rest....,you'll be laughing,(albeit while holding yourself to stop the pain).

Oh opps, I meant I'd use their kidneys whether they matched or not....remove them with a fork.

I'd quite fond of my own kidneys like.

Yes the person is doing a lot better now........in heaven.

In the end it didnt matter if he got my kidney as it would have only prolonged his life an extra year at best.
Could you not have just given them a lend of it for the year and then got put back in again ?

    Miserable bastard.

Sorry just kidding, (this is AH) Nah it would depend on their outlook post surgery.. Like if they were riddled with cancer or something and the kidney was only going to aleiviate one aspect of their suffering.. I don't think I'd part with it too quick.. but if it was JUST a kidney problem and the kidney was definately going to give them a new lease of life then I don't think I could justify not donating if I was a match with them..

But that's just me.. it's a very personal thing obviously.
