Do keep me updated about these tickets. I'm a nervous wreck over this farce.

Great running in the 5km by the way. Well done. If you had electronic timing it would have been sub 18 eh? Another reason to go back to the track. Accuate results :D

Well there's nothing to update, that's the problem. Nobody i know has heard that they have athletics tickets if that's any help. I'm almost resigned to the fact that i won't be going to the athletics next year.

Club track meeting in 2 weeks, i'll give a few of the events a lash.

:( It's not fair. The genuine fans of the sport getting f&cked, so that Cheryl Cole can prop up the bar flirting away with some other douchebag celebrity, while Teddy Tamgho is meanwhile leaping 18 metres.

Dont lose complete hope though. They will be taking money from cards right up to 12 midnight. Maybe it will be a very busy day for them and they havent got to us yet. Keep me posted.

Mon 30th May, 6 mls easy in 50'32 (8'24) on the UL riverbank in Limerick. Nice day and felt good after the rest day Sunday. No ill effects from the race Saturday. Stopped in my tracks by black beauty on the way back in (see photo) I remember Radcliffe was chased down this riverbank by a horse a few years ago, i wonder if this was the same one, either way i was taking no chances and tiptoed by.

Tues 31st May, got back into London late last night (after 1am) so was fairly wrecked but still headed down for the club track session in Finsbury Park. Did 8 x 800m starting every 4 mins, i.e. if you did 2'50 you got 70 secs recovery etc. Took it handy the first 3 (all about 2'50) as it seemed a tough session on paper but felt good and pushed on the last 5 to do 2'42's to 2'44's. Felt great the whole session and i may now be in the best shape of my life it's hard to tell. 1 ml w/d for 5 mls total, the usual fast cycle to warm up which is more effective than you'd think.

    May Review
, another month gone. Ran 157 miles and 3 races. 2 5k pb's and one disaster in the Leeds half, as well as my first pacing job. I think i'll remember this month as ther one i achieved the objective of this log and got back to the level of 2006/2007. Onwards and upwards from here.

    "Dear Brian
Congratulations! We are delighted to confirm that your ballot entry was successful and you have gained a place in the Brighton Marathon 2012! To redeem your entry you MUST now register and pay the entry fee using the link and code below. This code is yours and can be used only once.

THE DEADLINE FOR ENTERING AND USING YOUR UNIQUE ENTRY CODE IS 5PM ON FRIDAY 17TH JUNE."

Hmmm. 2 weeks to decide if wanna do it. I was there 2 weeks ago and hugely impressed with the place, hence entering the ballot. I've heard good things about this one from lads at the club, 15,000 places went in days, hard to believe. There doesn't seem to be much momentum for a boardsie spring marathon at the mo so i might go for this one. I'd prefer to do Barca but this one is so much more convenient, just an hour away on the train.

As of last Saturday i am not doing the conn ultra, bought out of the bet with meno and jb. Maybe deep down i know i won't break 3 in Berlin and will have to reload in the spring.

Go for it, it sounds like a good option - particularly with it being so convenient to where you are now.

Sorry but taper madness is reserved for those of us days away from racing!

If you don't do Conn Ultra you owe the full €50. You forgot to use your buy out clause last saturday :pac:

I see it's on two weeks after conn. You should be recovered enough to use your Ultra fitness and give Brighton a lash...

I gave you 25 euro the other night in Chaplins, although you were sozzled and headed soon after. Joe was a witness, you gave out sh*t to me and called me a chicken followed by me saying i'm too good to do an ultra.

As regards Brighton. The field is 18,000 in 2012  in only its 3rd year so they must be doing something right. I might still get a place in London but can't count on it.

It was after 10 anyway, because you were trying to get him to give it to me.

Not sure it's all a little hazy, either way i'm out of it surely. Get ready to give JB €75 in Conn :p

    Yup - I was there...

I was most amused by Brian paying Meno €25 to basically leave him alone!

I think it was before midnight, as I left around then!

Weds 1st June, 5 mls easy/recovery in 44'29 (8'54) in the heath. Wanted to do core/strides after but the apprentice was calling :)

I moved to England 6 months ago today  where did the time go?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,859 ✭✭✭pgmcpq

Just catching up. Nice running in the 5k - sub 18 is there for you if you run the race you are capable of.

Why so doubtful on Berlin ? Deep down ... no one really ever knows until mile 20 ! No point in psyching yourself out of it before hand. Wouldn't you be "reloding" in spring anyway ?

Heard good things about the Brighton marathon - have friends down there so it is on my bucket list ...

My marathon history is the thing putting me off. Everything up to the half points to sub 3. The 60 mile weeks (when they arrive ) should sort that out.

Part of the reason i want to do Brighton is that i can do Reading in March, its 4 weeks before, but only a week before Barca. Thinking that i'll do Brighton now actually.

Thurs 2nd June, 4 mls easy/steady at lunchtime in the heath. 31'56 (8'14). Again a bit slow to get going but felt good then. Lsr tomorrow, why on a friday? 2 mile race in Battersea on Monday evening that's why! Racing a lot these days i know but the short ones don't take much out of me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,454 ✭✭✭hf4z6sqo7vjngi

Jackyback and myself had a 10 euro bet In Barca in March that I would break 18 mins for this race would you believe. I guess I lose, although it may have been 17:59:70 and been rounded up we'll never know so i guess i hold onto my money on a technicality. :p

Good race and good time but pay up your bets:). Must get onto that Meno chappie as it seems he has €12.50 of my money. If it was me i would not let you back out of it:) Pissed you are not running Conn now as it would have been a good laugh to see you explode as you crossed the marathon distance with another half to go:pac:

In all seriousness the training is coming good and you must be delighted with the two recent pbs.

Yeah i lost the bet to be honest, i'l pay up next time i see you.

Re Conn; I just came to the conclusion that deep down i didnt want to do an ultra, too soon for it, when i'm in my thirties i'd say. I would have exploded alright yeah, cause i wouldnt have done the proper training for it.

I wasn't all that delighted with the first pb (the 18'42), the exact opposite actually, was starting to think i was losing it! Donore showed thats its back though.

Plenty of time for the ultras when yer old like meno!

You're fast on the short stuff anyway and enjoy7 it so if you want to that more, go do it!

Exactly yeah. I'm quite young for a road runner i know that, even if i have a load of miles on the clock. I'm just wary of doing myself long term damage by running an ultra and ultimately that's why i didn't do it.

    Fri 4th June
, 17 mls LSR in 2'23'31 (8'26) down to Hyde Park (2 laps) and back up. Waited for the heat to die down a bit but it was still tough going early on. Went through a bad patch around halfway but finished feeling strong. Good run.

I'll do one or 2 events next week at our club track meet. I'd love to have a crack at a sub 5 mile at some stage. I'd be quite confiedent of doing it on a track.

Sun 5th June, 7 mls very easy in 62'50 (8'59) down to regents park, one big lap and back up. Miserable evening for a run, rain throughout.

20 mins core after, not ideal with the 2 mile race in battersea tomorrow but i cant be doing mini tapers for all these short races.

    Weekly Review
, 44 miles and 6 runs. Good LSR and speed session Tuesday but fairly ordinary apart from that.

    Yearly Mileage, 768 miles.

My marathon history is the thing putting me off.

The real "worst case scenario" is that you think yourself out of it before you start ! Go for it - the worst outcome would be that you might miss it ... but in the process you'll likely learn something useful and some back stronger. It's a no lose outcome ! Forward progress is the key. Enough with the "exploding" stuff - this is running not bomb disposal !!
