Please excuse the "noob" question, don't have a requirement to use Dublin Bus much, but have to later in the week. Tried their website, but couldn't find an answer.

When I get on the bus, is it possible to get a ticket that will allow me make a return journey? Fare one way is €2.30. Can I put in €4.60, and get a return ticket? Do they do this?

no, you cant get return ticket, but if you are going to be using the bus a good bit that particular day, you mite be as well of buying a 1 day ticket, that way you can get on and of bus as you please and just scan your ticket

    Thanks, appreciate the quick replies.

Traveling between the City Centre and Citywest, just 2 days, there and back, so unlikely worth getting any other kind of ticket for that. Have enough change for 1 day now, just mustn't forget to retain some more for the following day (I'm the guy who counts the loose change before filling up with petrol, just so I can dump it all on the counter).

    Thanks again.

You could perhaps purchase a Travel 90 ticket or a 3 day Rambler.

Travel 90 costs €19 and has ten tickets on it as which allow you to transfer onto any amount of buses within 90 minutes of your first trip. The trip price is €1.90 and also covers you for that extra trip if you need to chance or connect to other buses if need be. While you have to but a ticket with ten trips on it it stays valid for ages (Over a year AFAIK) so you can use it over months and months so it's good value.

3 Day Rambler is €13.50 and gives you unlimited travel on buses on 3 non consecutive days so you have the convenience of no cash, unlimited trips on the day you use it plus a spare days free travel on it if and when you need it.

Both of those tickets don't need ID so as such they are transferable if a friend or family member might need to use them.
