No really, would you say the same if it had been an 11 year old female child? Why is it a joke cos it was a boy?

see tLL for non AH response

I'd be appalled at that story no matter what the gender of the victim was, I think most people would OP. The only reason they're getting away with it is because the boy's stupid mother won't press charges. I don't really see why you felt the need to alter your title.

the thread in TLL on the same subject has the correct title and people are equally disgusted.

What they did was wrong but sexist or not if 3 guys did this to a girl it will always be treated more seriously, nothing to do with 'equality' its just a different dynamic.

Not sure if joking about a child being assaulted is acceptable here either, tbh.

Perhaps the parents all knew each other, and the mother didn't want to start a lengthy ordeal...

Tough - that little boys ordeal will be with him for the rest of his life, affecting his schoolwork, friends, future intimate relationships... Doesn't even compare tbh

It's responses like these that are the problem, I doubt if it was reversed, nobody would say the girl would be 'secretly chuffed'.

And if roles were reversed the post would get reported too and there would be an outcry.
I appreciated D posting this the way he did. The thread title coaxes outrage and then the text really hits in to make you think about gender, equality, perception.

Yeah that's what i'm saying. Obviously he won't joke about it now, but when he's a bit older he'll probably make jokes about it with his mates.

Either way something should be done about those girls.

He might laugh it off in years to come, doesn't mean he will actually find it funny, it's just a defense mechanism, they set out to humiliating him, there is nothing amusing within that.

Females can get away with a lot more than males generally in life, they know this, some take advantage. It'd be nice if they weren't let off the hook as easily as they will be.

The boys mother should be ashamed of herself.

Aren't there other incidents where the authorities can step in when there is video footage of something, and it isn't down to the person to press charges?

I'm sure some action will be taken whether or not the mother presses charges. Presumably the school can also press charges since it happened on their watch?

It's fairly horrid, but is it really news?
Would it not be news if it was the scenario proposed in the OP?

Perhaps this should be a case that Child Protection Services should look into; I'm disgusted that the boy's parents aren't pressing charges. Poor kid - having parents like that.

It might be, but it doesn't mean it should be.

She won't press charges on the wagons who assaulted and humiliated him.

As punishment, the same thing should happen to the girls. That sounds fair doesnt it?
youtube the lot, serve them right and paedobear be dammed.

^that would be a poor idea.

Why can't the district attorney just press the charges? Surely people saying that the fact that they are getting away with it is the 'mother's fault' are not entirely correct, because she is not the only one with the power to take the suspects to court.

    Fair enough.

You know what would be funny?
If we got to see a video of that time 3 girls kicked the crap out of you while your friends stood by and laughed.

You felt great about that, didn't you?

Ahh, sure it's only AH. Nobody minds that 3 chicks beat the crap out of you, do they?
They'll laugh at you, but you're not in school any more, so all is well.

Umm no, they have to learn that what they did is cruel and wrong - not have it reinforced by adults who should know better

Why do we only seem to care when this happens by members of the opposite sex?

Everyone had crazes when they were in school. In one of the schools I attended, one craze was handwarmers, another craze was marbles, and another craze was pulling down one another's trousers at inappropriate moments. Refectory queues, football practice, art class, fire drills - whatever. Nobody would ever tolerate such behaviour imposed on females by males, yet in my experience, this was something that even teachers found funny. And to be honest, I don't know anybody who didn't consider it funny, in an adolescent sort of way.

But this persists even into adulthood. How many of us are aware of stag parties with naked men being tied to lampposts or hotel lobbies?

The fact is that we do accept these behaviours on a same gender basis, when there seems to be some aversion to these behaviours when carried out on a hetero-gender basis. I'm not really sure that's logical.

So what you are saying is that it's ok to be a bully in school, and a wanker when you leave school. Is that right?

What sort of Mother wouldn't press charges over something like this?

Sadly though even she did I suspect the girls would get off a lot easier than if they were three boys holding down and stripping a young girl.

I just watched the video. The one thing that struck me is that the bloke didn't really look like he put up much of a struggle. But then again, I wasn't there, I don't know the circumstances or the people involved, so maybe that's an irrelevant thing to say?

But I don't think it's irrelevant... this appears to be trial by video. Something happened, something was filmed & everyone seems to have a very concrete opinion on it and more importantly, that this is some kind of serious gender issue.. "what if the roles were reversed?" etc., and that the boy involved will be scarred for life.

For all anyone knows, this was just a few kids pricking around & it's been blown out of all proportion by the media.

Or maybe it is something more serious. But nobody here knows either way for sure. So it's all just speculation.

So if it's a case of assault, then it should be taken seriously. If not, then my reply to this is "niiice".

Apart from that, my only other thoughts is that AH seems to have a serious stick up it's arse in this thread. It's like a Joe Duffy style YouTube lynching.

    OP...

Where did you get your original post and thread title from? This exact some post was made on another forum I'm on earlier today.

This, its ok to joke about anything else on AH, its what this thread is known for, but now people are losing their collective sh1t over something like this.

most sensible post of the thread so far.

I think he's commenting on the context of the situation.

I had my pants, and jocks, pulled down when in TY on front of the class. I didn't really care about it and I wasn't the only person it happened to. It was just an acceptable thing to do at the time and we just laughed it off.
