Existing TV reception bad, will Saorview work?

    My existing TV reception is very bad - I can't get the Irish channels, never mind the BBCs etc. I have a 4ft TV aerial (not sure of type) on my chimney. The summer I got the aerial installed the reception was good - now I get nothing. (I even got a small RTE aerial attached to the main aerial to see if that would improve reception but no difference.)

    My question is will Soarview work if my existing reception is so bad?

    What could you originally receive with the aerial & who installed the 'small RTE aerial' (& why, what was the existing one intended for)?

    What part of the country are you in? You can check Saorview coverage here

    You won't receive Saorview with a clearly non-functioning aerial setup.

    After the original installation of the aerial I was able to get the RTEs, BBCs, C4 and I think TV3 & TG4. By the end of summer the reception was very bad. So the installation guy reckoned if I attached a small RTE aerial to the original aerial this might improve reception - it didn't.

    Anyways I got Sky installed as the reception was so bad. So I was wondering if I cancelled Sky - used the Sky box for FTA and got in a Saorview box for the Irish channels.

    I live in Westmeath. (The last Sky engineer I had in was surprised at how bad the analogue reception was - he wondered was it because I lived so close to the army barracks - its 500 yards away from my house.)

    So it looks like unless I can sort out my TV aerial reception I can forget about getting Saorview?

    Get a decent aerial guy in to look at your set up and fix it. Google ISAA for reputable installers list.

    Sounds like you had 2 cowboys already.

    Get a combo box - see bargain thread below (€99)and be done with sky.

    Yes you will receive Saorview in Wesmeath no problem. You can also use your existing Sky Dish for the FTA channels from Astra 28.2 and when combined with the Irish channels (all in the one channels list) you will wonder why you are paying Sky for this privelege.

    OP, no need for a combo if your tv is Saorview compatible, what's the make & model?

    As pointed out above, get a decent installer to check your system & they should also be able to recognise (& measure) interference from TETRA or other mobile services.
