    Outraged, huh?

Except it was three middle school girls who pinned down an 11 years old elementary school boy, made a video of it and posted it on youtube (been removed). See story and blurred vid: http://www.winknews.com/Local-Florida/2011-06-01/Online-video-shows-Fort-Myers-boy-being-bullied
    His mother won't press charges.

If the gender roles were reversed as I suggested in the topic, would there have been a crazy outcry and would the fictional boys have been banned from school - regardless if it was on school property or not - and probably have some sexual assault stuff stickied to their CV?

    Honestly.

Why won't his mother press charges? Parents should stand up for their kids.

The mother's to blame, she's the only reason these girls won't be punished.

It's the mother who doesn't want to press charges, the police said the girls "would have faced misdemeanor battery charges". I'm sure the law wouldn't have acted differently regardless of the genders involved, it's the mother's choice.

I bet the lad is secretly chuffed

That is absolutely disgusting behaviour. So degrading for that boy. Imagine having to face going to school again after your friends seeing that video...

Those girls are lucky his mother isn't pressing charges. Their parents better be handing out some heavy-handed punishments.

It's responses like these that are the problem, I doubt if it was reversed, nobody would say the girl would be 'secretly chuffed'.

If that was my kid i wouldn't be leaving it up to the girls parents to hand out punishments, i'd be leaving it to the police. Even just to frighten the crap out of them enough that they'll never try a stunt like that again.

No really, would you say the same if it had been an 11 year old female child? Why is it a joke cos it was a boy?

Unfortunately I don't think the parents can hand out a strict enough punishment. What are they going to do? Ground them? Take their TV away?

What the girls did was intentionally sadistic, they should have that on their record. They should have it hanging over them every time they look for a job, what they did took planning and malice and they're getting off without even a slap on the wrist.

    WTF?

Point being made is that the thread title made you click in. But the actual facts, that it was three girls bullying a boy, highlights the inequality between the sexes - the boy's parents won't even press charges.

He should have started kicking the **** outta them ,oh wait, he'd be lynched for hitting girls then...

I like what ya did with the title OP, very John Grisham ;)

What a pack of b1tches!!! They need a serious slap upside the head.
For these kinda things they should bring back the stocks. It'd give supermarkets a use for the mould produce they don't sell!

Maybe when he's 19 he'll laugh about it, but given that he's 11 now I'm guessing he dreads school, is embarrassed in public and is a high risk for depression.

Totally agree. If I were the mother I would press charges. Disgusting behaviour!

I completely agree with you. Tbh, I think it's a bad decision on the mother's part to not press charges. Those girls will never truly feel the consequences of such serious behaviour, and that boy will never feel that justice was served.

In all seriousness, do you think this is the kind of thing he will joke about when he's 19? It's probably going to follow him around for a long time in a negative way. Hardly something to be made light of.

Fort Myers Police says the girl would have faced misdemeanor battery charges, but that the boy's mother has refused to press charges. She wants the girls' parents to hand out a punishment instead.

Perhaps the parents all knew each other, and the mother didn't want to start a lengthy ordeal...

Yeah that's what i'm saying. Obviously he won't joke about it now, but when he's a bit older he'll probably make jokes about it with his mates.

Either way something should be done about those girls.

Having been regularly accused of being one, I can affirm I'm right here, and I'm not the one making jokes about it, so perhaps it's not the feminists you need to blame for this not being taken seriously.

I'm sure some action will be taken whether or not the mother presses charges. Presumably the school can also press charges since it happened on their watch?

It's fairly horrid, but is it really news?
