The Older Generations of Today

What is it with the 35-55 generation of today? I have numerous quips which I'd like to share. All of which focus on what can only be described as a generation that are nothing more of a let-down in comparison to generations (now dead) that went before them. They lack the wisdom that comes with age. Nor the passion that comes with youth.

Things that annoy me about middle agers:
    • They somehow succeeded in fcuking up this country despite gaining power in the best economical conditions possible (worked for by their parents)
    • They complain about everything and do nothing. Students march. OAPs march (slowly). Graduates March. What do middle agers do? Sit around and blame the Jonses for making them want to keep up with them,
    • They're ponsy as fcuk. 'Ohh - look at me in my Audi TT'. It's a ladies care mate.
    • They're conservative on everything - drugs, economical reforms, religion, who to vote for...
    • They like to think they're with it. The iPhone, sports jacket and BMW make them look 'cool'. It really doesn't. And if I'm that dillusional so early in life (middle age) just shoot me.
    • They're so consious of social etiquitte (tipping, language used, poltical correctness) they've lost any voice they could have potentially had

They also have a problem with the youth of today with how they are being raised yet fail to recognise that this problem inherently stems from the parents - I.e. their own generation.

You have failed the youth of today. I, as a young 19 year old student, am nor inspired or motivated in any way by any of your actions or achievements. Nor do I wish to carry on in any action in which you partake never mind form any tradition from it. I can think of nothing you have done that is worth repeating.

You have failed your parents. Big time. Messing up the country. Marrying the wrong person. Not knowing how to do basic DIY. Being a snob. Over protecting your children. And your general lack of morality both on a micro (personal) and macro (international) level.

Does the middle-agers of today annoy anyone else?

Oi! 35-55 is a wide fecking age bracket.

Also you are 19 and therefore know next to nothing about anything.

Don't forget to come back in 16 years to this thread and let us know how you solved all the problems of the world.

    Tsk, teenagers these days.

It is. It's an age bracket dominated by failure.

    You assume wrongly.

    I probably will forget.

Well going by how each generation seems to be weaker minded than the rest, you can look forward to yourself being an even bigger disappointment to your children when you hit middle age. :D

I just turned 35 the other week.

One day I was cool as ****, successful and confident; the next day I woke up reeking of failure and ponsy-ing about the place, my place in the older generation mournfully confirmed.

The fact you don't know my age tells me you didn't read what I wrote therefore you're full of excrement.

    uh-oh, a lot of offended 30 something year-olds on here.:pac:

    Cheer up 80s babies!!
The truth is most people in their late teens/early twenties see anyone over thirty as old.:pac:

(I used to think anyone over 25 was old, now that I'm 20 I think its anyone over 35)

Well, it's obvious that people in an older age bracket have zero respect for teenagers, even though we are expected to respect them 100%. I always respect people older than me, but I definitely do not get the same treatment shown to me.

Also, I don't think the OP was saying that people who are 35 are old, I think he means people who are old enough to have children in the age bracket of 16-19.

I agree largely with your post. An I largely do respect those older than me because a lot of the times they know better. But I never respect anyone right away - it doesn't come as a reflex that just because someones parents had sex before yours that you should respect them.

When you get to certain age you'l realise you won't give a sh!t what some teenager thinks, so ya I agree with you 100% they really are an uninspiring bunch.

I doubt someone who was 20 in 1976 would see themselves as being of the same generation as someone who was 20 in 1996.

    OP, you're mental.

Nah, we're too busy living our lives to waste blaming the world's problems on a demographic.

Now shut up or I'll flip a table at you.

Well you don't have to be in your 30s or offended to see how fucking retarded it is to call 35+ "older generation".
The truth is most people in their late teens/early twenties see anyone over thirty as old.:pac:
I had perspective and a grasp on maths. I saw old is elderly - you know, 70s/80s? I thought of over 30 as older than I wanted to be, but not old.

The irony of this is the amount of 19/20-year-olds on Boards who go on like cantankerous auld ones/auld fellas, but then there are 30/40-somethings who are way more relaxed, way more of a laugh and way more tolerant.

I'm right in the middle of that age range. Not one thing you wrote applies to me, or to any of my friends, many of whom are in that age range. You may well be intelligent, literate, well informed on some issues etc. OP, but your post is a load of wánk.

In my lengthy 39 years I have learned a few things, one of which applies here.

It's never usually advisable to make sweeping generalisations.

The middle aged people you know may drive BMWs and Audi TTs, wear leather jackets and sport iPhones as fashion accessories. Many don't. And many do not exhibit other traits you list as unacceptable to you.

If you'd framed your personal angst in the context of your own world view and experience, I might be interested in a discussion. Including me in your rant when you don't know me is unacceptable.

Come back in 20 years and see how you feel then.

I'm not in my 30's yet for the record, but I have been 19, and I know how you think you know everything and how very wrong you are.

I'm in that age range, I have lots of respect for people, regardless of their age, as do many, many people of all ages, but I have none for your silly statement.
Also, I don't think the OP was saying that people who are 35 are old, I think he means people who are old enough to have children in the age bracket of 16-19.

Really? Why did he make the age range 35-55 and not specify he meant the parents of 16-19 year olds? Are you just reading what you think you wanted him to have said to suit your argument?

This bit is the only part of the OP's rant that might apply to me - but I can't see how the first bit leads to the second. Never mind lumping "political correctness" in with social etiquette - they are two very different things.

Politeness and correctness are not political in the slightest: they are the grease on the gears behind the façade of society. One polite word can lead to more real action than any number of swearwords. Like it or not, older people hold the real power in this (or any) country, and getting in someone's face just makes it's very easy for him or her to dismiss you as a twat and ignore your message. You catch more flies with honey, youngling ...

Government resting upon the will and universal suffrage of the people has no anchorage except in the people's intelligence.
