    Mark Zuckerberg.
Invented 'Facebook' which does nothing at all, no cancer cure, no world peace. And he is work 13 billion dollars.

    Now that's clever.

I'm not saying he got lucky but other than this what else has he done. Surely you would need a regular proof of brilliance to be considered a Genius.

His QI elves give him a load of info though.

Yes, do his short term memory is outstanding but he admits he forgets it all.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. He hasn't done anything to advance humans.

The thread is in After Hours ... so Jedward will probably win the vote.

Eamon Ryan. To be part of a govt that screwed up a whole generation but to still be able to show your face in public, now that takes genius.(or a big bunch of woosies around you)

Can I just state, while I admire his "genius", I really, really, really, really feckin don't like him. The big genius that he is.

For me it is genuinely heartening to know that such a talent exists out there somewhere. For some reason the profound depth of his genius lends me great comfort.

I think it has to be Robert Zemeckis, creator of the Back to the Future franchise. This man has constructed what many regard as cinema's finest trilogy. It required a keen mind to devise plot lines involving manifold time travels and hazards (Back to the Future II most notably). Furthermore in the trilogy's protagonist, Marty McFly, he has created a character so intriguing and awe inspiring that Noam Chomsky remarked: "One of the great fictional creations, rubbing shoulders with Macbeth or Hamlet". Furthermore the character Biff Tannen has become the standard by which all villains are today judged. Indeed John Banville, the celebrated Irish author, called him "a character I dearly wish I had invented." Furthermore the decision not to award BTTF the Oscar for best film reportedly split the Academy with Sir Patrick Stewart calling the decision "a f***ing disgrace".

Thus I feel Robert Zemeckis has met all the requirements for genius.
