How Much Do You Tip The Barber?

    Hi,

    Got my haircut today and as usual I am never sure how much to tip or even if I should.

    Haircut was €13, paid with €20 so had a €2 coin and a fiver. Is €2 too little and €5 too much? I gave her the fiver and used to €2 for paying the parking.

    How much do you all tip when you get a haircut?

    Nothing.

    Getting my haircut takes less than 10 minutes and costs a tenner.Thats lots imo.

    I don't understand this tipping a barber or taximan. They both are working pretty much tax free and in my opinion charging way more then they should .



    Unless of course it's a pretty lady barber :)

    I'd normally round up to the nearest note - eg. if it was 12, i'd leave 15, if it was 16 I'd leave 20.

    Providing of course I was happy, and that he wasn't an arse.

    Interesting about the cash in hand no receipt situation, it never occurred to me.
    My pretty hairdresser gets handed 15 for a 10 euro haircut. The way I look at it is same as buying them a drink by way of thanks, 2 euro isn't going to get them one.

    those who said they pay a tenner for a haircut, where are these places? Any of them in Cork by any chance?? I get my haircut for €15 and if the person does a nice job I may give €1 as a tip.

    Maybe I'm being a bit cynical here but I have often wondered about it . When the taxman looks at the books how can he tell if the barber did 10 or 100 cuts on a day ? It's not like say food where you can see the stock coming and going out . There isn't really anyway to check is there ?

    8e for mens and 10e for womens in barbers here in Donegal
    Like another poster said it only takes a few minutes and the price is the price.
    Why should waiting staff get tipped but not serving staff?

    It used to be 14 euro a haircut in my local barbers during the boom.Now i can get it for a fiver elsewhere....screw them.

    Couple of euros......nice bit of a chat and a nice haircut - it's worth it to get 15 minutes of peace without a child hanging off my leg or getting sick on me!!

    Every now and again I would have given a tip to my barber as he provided a decent haircut...I've since switched barbers and get a nicer cut. I'll use the same system once I keep getting a good cut.
