Boards - Would you pay to post?

With all this talk of water charges and property taxes, I remember a while ago they were talking about putting a 1c tax on text messages.
So I was wondering if there was a 1c tax on every post on boards, would you still post?
Would it actually improve the quality of the posts or would it destroy everything you love about boards?

Some websites I am a member of do this (well, one anyway).

'Members' ($25 per year IIRC) can post links, pictures, and visit member-only forums. Non-members can post text, but that's it. (Can post a URL, but not in HTML).

For some reason I paid once 10 years ago, and seem to not have to renew annually like everyone else. But to be honest I would have let it lapse long ago if I was asked to pay again.

What I think would be interesting is a pay by post system. It would rule out a lot of poo talk, although that's what Boards is in general.

hell no! It would have cost me over 120 quid to post all the useless crap I post. That's walking around money.

Same here! I don't think i've ever been on outside of office hours:D

I actually think that text tax would be a good idea, we need to come up with some way of raising money that doesnt just keep repeatedly screwing the ever shrinking pool of paye workers.
