    Hi lads,

I've heard contrary views on this.. Is it possible to import/export/edit MIDI files using Pro Tools.. I would have assumed that this would be basic functionality, given what it is used for?

I use Cubase which is brilliant for editing.. so what's the story, is it just not as easy to edit MIDI in pro tools or are the certain things that you cant do ..

    thanks in advance..

It is possible to import/export & edit midi files in pro tools. You have to assign a virtual instrument to the parts to hear them though. Pro tools 8 & 9 are the best versions to use with the midi editor window.

File import midi or just drag the midi file from the desktop into the edit window inside a midi or instrument track. If you are using a midi track setup and aux and send then setup a midi underneath it and away you go. Midi is fine in PT just not as tight as Logic.

IME MIDI is just as tight in PT as it is in Logic.

Unfortunately not. Go to the DUC HD forum and search for. Huge midi ADC bug. It seems PT9 has fixed this but it has blighted all but the last cs of PT8. Even with the fix Logic is definitely tighter, much less slop ( minute random variations in timing ) Trust me, I hate using Logic, but the midi side of it is way better. PT wins hands down on everything else though IMHO

Ah OK, I've only ever directly compared the MIDI in M Powered and Logic. Don't actually do a whole lot of MIDI on the HD at work.

The HD issue was a debacle of monstrous proportions. Of course mpowered wasnt affected because of no ADC. Even so the midi side of protools is it's weakest link..
