Norris easily won Joe Duffy's text poll last week for next President

That's why she came forward and to that show. And this answered you Nodin on the show she went to.

She doesn't think he is fit for the office so now is the time to come forward

If Norris was a no hoper in the polls, it's possible she would have not have bothered and let history rest

There's been plenty of polls which he's won in recent times, point still stands..

How long after his election do people think it'd take for his dodgy comments to go international? What a lovely advert for Ireland, still reeling as we are from the Murphy & Ryan reports.

Yeah, that really backs up your assertions.

    Nate

You're being silly now. I've stated that I saw Senator Norris put forward this viewpoint on RTE and you're disputing that. So I've said fine, don't take my word for it, contact some of the people involved in the show. Yes, that WOULD back up my assertions, particularly if RTE have archive film or a transcript of the interview.

You sound like you are disagreeing just for the sake of it !

Anyone know if Enoch Burke (campaign for conscience) is any relation to Helen Lucy Burke, or is the shared surname just coincidental?

That Burke family are a disgrace to the county of Mayo.

Indeedy. Bit odd she went to Mr Bluffys show and not Pat Kenny or morning Ireland too.

Somewhere where the presenter would just tut and go, "Sure, sure, sure" instead of actually questioning her properly on her wild allegations and what seem to be untruths.

...because (a)the real issue is the election, not Bluffys poll and (b)Pat Kenny/Morning Ireland etc is the venue for serious political reportage and Duffy is sloppy, pathetic nonsense and rather notorious for it.

His misquoted comments that were coupled with supposition?

Was reading something about Senator Norris recently and was just wondering about people'sopinions on him running for President.

Simple enough question. Would you/ will you vote for David Norris to be President?

I certainly would. He seems like a genuinely good man with great intellect and he's one of the few politicians I feel is not in politics for his own gain.

I also believe that he is a genuinely good man. I wish him the very best in his campaign for president.

It looks as if David Norris might well be backtracking.

I saw him in 2009 on an episode of "Seoige" on RTE1 speaking in favour of Ireland rejoining the Commonwealth, in a debate-style discussion.

This should be readily available to RTE in their archives.

So David Norris cannot honestly claim that he has never advocated Ireland rejoining the commonwealth as the evidence proves otherwise.

Don't see anything wrong with him taking a side in a debate tbh.

11 independant senators and 14 independant TD's leaving the mix & match of ULA
The main parties have their own candidates, I'm still failing to see how he is going to get on the ballot

    Nothing dodgy about his comments.
This is the similar to the nonsense that Ken Clarke faced a couple of weeks back in England.

I must say I am surprised in a way at Norris's popularity. I personally always liked him but I genuinely didn't expect this thread to be as positive as it is.

I had thought that maybe people, while not homophobic, might not have been comfortable with having a gay man as President. I am happy to have been proven wrong!

And at least the majority of those who wouldn't vote for him (of whom there appears to be few) have proper reasons rather than good old fashioned homphobia, which I was worried about too.

I would however like to know where people are getting the idea he supports paedophilia? What I took from his comments are that he does not understand or condone at all but has no issue with older ADULT men and younger ADULT men having relationships, which is fine as far as I can see.

Also what was the woman on Joe Duffy saying about the Senator? I must have missed it.

Personally I'm waiting to see what Helen Lucy Burke says in response to the Norris interview this morning.

She needs to produce the tape to back up her claims or else her credibility is gone.

she has produced the tape, its with RTE. Norris claims there is several times where she turned the tape on and off.

Ah! Last I heard she hadn't produced it.

Can't be too long before it gets leaked then.

[edit] Looks like she hasn't even listened back to it

When did she produce them? I know up until this morning she hadn't, so now I'm curious if she really has. I wonder if they are the right tapes if she did. She did say she didn't think they'd work now!

It's often possible to restore damaged media. RTÉ will have the technicians to do it

This is why this thread is farcical! Cause if anyone says anything anti Norris. . . . BOOM! YOU HATE GAYS!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

    Retarded stuff folks.

Those people are as bad as those who will vote for him purely because of his sexuality.

No reason why a nine year old audio tape wouldn`t work. I have thirty year old home recordings that all work perfectly.

In fact, it would be highly suspicious if they somehow happen to be damaged beyond repair.

I agree, I have plenty of stuff on tape that I recorded as a child (neither today nor yesterday I may add) off the radio and I tried them a year of so ago and they worked perfectly(ish).

HLB seems to be labouring the point that they may be damaged a bit too much, so if they have turned up I'll be very curious to hear exactly whats on them!

If you compare the usual suspects reaction to Norris and his off the cuff remarks about classical pedophilia and the reaction to Ken Clarke to 'classic rape' you can see how far the left are willing to bury their heads.

Norris, his stupid statement aside is an self aggrandizing, self important, shameless self promoter and a total embarrassment. I hope he doesn't win, but then the Paddies capacity to ignore reality and vote for the likes of Mick Wallace and Jedward, because sure aren't they a bit of craic!' should never be underestimated.

    Yes, welcome President Norris:

As per the 6 o clock news, she now says the tape she had isn't the one and shes no idea where the actual recording is/it might have been lost when her roof caved in.

I'll have to look at the 9 news tonight see what she says.

I think it speaks volumes all the same!

Well that says it all really.

But to be honest you only have to read what he said to know that she was making it out to be something it wasn't.

I think it's incredible that she started this without having the tapes in order or at least knowing whether she still had them.

She was obviously just stirring and attempting a smear campaign. She must have thought she could get away without having provide the tapes.

Perhaps she didn't realise the amount of support Senator Norris has.
