    Hey folks,

Anybody know of any place with a machine that exchanges coins for cash. Preferably in Dun Laoghaire, but anywhere will do. I'm broke, but have 200 in coins :-/

    Cheers!

Most spar/centra type stores I've seen have these machines in store. They do however charge a handsome premium as far as I know (10% ish) so a trip to the bank might be cheaper!

No - but the ones that do usually take a cut.

Go down to the bank, get some coin bags, count and bag them yourself. Bring to bank and exchange for cash.

    Sorted!;)

I think Dunnes Stores supermarkets have them. It will cost you though. Just seperate them into coin bags and deposit them into your bank account.

Tesco's self check-out has got a bowl you can throw coins into and they won't take a fee. I think it's strange because there's a coin counter machine about 15 feet away from them that charges you for the service.

    Thanks for the suggestions..

It's worth the 20 quid. Bagging it would take hours.. Also the money would come in handy tonight..

    Any locations welcome :)

    haha good one.

I've thought before about overpaying on something to get rid of my coins.

FYI one quick way of counting coins.

    1) pour pile on table
    2) separate into two piles ("coppers" and "golds")
    3) subdivide the copper and gold piles into 1,2,5 10,20,50 etc
    4) work out how much a full bag of a particular coin is supposed to weigh (eg a full bag of 1cents is supposed to weight 230grams).
    5) weigh this amount of 1cents on a digital food scales if you have one and then chuck em in a bag and close it.

    Job done.

Banks will charge you a handling fee as well (if over a certain limit). I forget what that limit is.

    OP, this is After Hours.

Try the Dublin forum in future for all things in that region.
