Heavier doesnt always mean stronger saying that it would be a tough match. I would definatly say a Gorilla would beat a lion but tige Gorilla would be 50 50.

    IMO, Not a chance!

    Tigers are built for killing!

Gorillas are built for picking daisys or something equally gay!

Gorilla would win everytime. 250kgs of angry monkey beats cranky cat every time. Impalas rarely grab your head, crack your skull with a fist and eat your face. More fool them... Tigger would be at a loss as soon as donkey kong grabbed a hold of his chops.

Male gorillas have been known to fight each other to the death. The silverback also has sacrificed itself fighting poachers to the death while its family escapes. Of course they are partly designed for fighting!

I would have to say siberian tiger considering the size of them. 4 sets of claws and nice, sharp teeth vs two big fists. Ever see a cat on its back where it pins you with its front paws and keeps jumping on you with its back claws - agony.

I remember watching a program lately about miners in africa or somewhere years ago -they set up 1v1s fight tothe death of exotic animals for entertainment/gambling.
They said bear beats them all.

Gorilla, 400 pounds and they can flip cars with one arm. I can't imagine how hard that punch would be, if a tiger tries to bite and hold on the arms would beat it good, although it could slash and run away etc.
Still i think it would end like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP-6wG_wZ8A#t=4m5s or with the gorlla punching in its skull.

If the Gorilla grabbed a hold of the Tiger or landed one Gorilla smash the Tiger would be finished.

Would it be a straight fight or would weapons be allowed?

(e.g. tiger with slash hook v gorilla with bazooka.)

Don't really know , but the 'Crack' dealing Hyena's are waiting on the sidelines ready to offer winner a job as debt collector.
(The Elephant is behind on its payments.)

Think we could knock a film script outta this one!!!

Tigers are more agile, but one strong blow from a silver back gorilla could probably do a tiger in.

I can't see the tiger losing this one. Tigers are killing machines, 300 kgs angry bags of muscle, bone and pointy bits. In terms of speed, power, agility, reach it's got the drop on the gorilla, a swipe from a tiger paw is strong enough to smash a cows head in.

    No contest IMO

    Tiger easily

    Male Gorillas weigh 140–200 kg

Tigers weigh up to 300 kilograms

Do the math - tigers are bigger stronger and have big ass teeth

    Big ass teeth??

So they can bite with both ends?

tiger would kick the gorrila's ass.

First of all the tiger would most likely be hunting the gorilla so it would probably attack first. second gorilla's are known for their gentility as opposed to tigers. gorilla's are strong but dont have the agression or agility of tigers on the ground

Man, some of you people have never seen a gorilla in action - gentle when he's happy, unbelievably fúcking fast and aggressive when not, teeth not that much smaller than the tiger, far more dexterity and manouverability, more power per limb and bigger brain. Yer Tiger'd want a gun to level it up a bit.

2 inch canines for the gorilla, 4 inch for the tiger.

Far more dexterity and manouvreability? not unless they're fighting in tree tops.

Tigers are predators and have natural killer instinct and have expressly evolved for the purpose of killing things

    Tiger would likely win.

Tigers gotta win this one. He is just too fast and as soon as the gorilla got a hold of the tiger, the tiger would just rip his skin off with his claws and the gorilla would let go BUT the gorilla has a punchers chance. If he gets one head blow in, its game over.

I doubt this. Gorillas can stand on two legs or crouch down, can leap high and far, travel quickly and has huge arms to swing. From the footage I've seen they look pretty graceful. I'd say that the Gorilla is the more maneuverable of the two.

Also it said on QI once that some sick circus keepers in America in the 19th C used to stage fights between lions and bears. The bears won every time because the lions, not used to fighting strong creatures, had weak skeleton structures and their heads would just shatter from the strength of the bear. (I really hate knowing that, it's horrible.)

I'd imagine that it would be the same here. Male Gorillas have evolved to fight each other, and I'd guess that they can withstand a good thump. Tigers on the other hand never get hit by anything stronger than a gazelle.

Gorilla ftw, despite the size difference.

    According to this:

the tiger is the favourite... :/

I still think Gorilla though - even if the tiger manages to latch on the gorilla is going punch holes in him.

I'd be close but I would say the gorilla has the edge. The gorilla would have more experience with fighting due to troop disputes whereas the tiger has probably never had to properly defend its own life. Also the tiger wouldn't have any experience tackling animals with such limb strength and maneuverability, I mean when was the last time you saw a buffalo/gazelle etc throw a punch or walk on two legs.
While the tiger's teeth and claws may be sharp, the gorilla's neck is fairly well protected by it's high shoulders and sloped skull.

Also as stated previously the gorilla is strong enough to flip a car. So if it can do that I would expect it to tear the limbs off a tiger with ease. Getting a grip on the tiger's limb would be difficult though. The tiger is definitely faster than the gorilla and has better reflexes. However the gorilla is a seasoned fighter and just has to land one good hit.

Yes, FAR more dexterity for the gorilla - 4 very manouverable limbs with prehensile appendages. A tigers claw is damaging, but not as much as very, very strong fingers on a throat, from the same appendage that can deliver a massive punch. Hands, deadly things in a fight.

FAR more manouverable on the ground too, the ability to stand on two legs means a griller can turn in his own space. It's one of the things that provided evolutionary advantage to primates. In comparison, a tiger turns like a ship.

Tiger's teeth are indded fearsome, but the add ability to grasp and 2" teeth will do some amount of damage.

Killer instinct little different for the two. Tiger is a hunter alright, but it's not like gorillas have lost the instinct to defend when they need and they do fight each other.

A previous poster claimed that Tiger is much heavier, that link says they're roughly the same size.

In light of that it must be the gorilla. It can flip over a family size car for Christ sake. It might just literally rip the tiger apart.

On a related topic: if a tiger and a gorilla where "courtin'", as my mammy used to say, who would be the giver and who would be taker?

I'm going to go with gorilla as giver on this, but I'm not sure why.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,636 ✭✭✭maninasia

The gorilla is much smarter and can just squeeze the tiger to death. You ever see the size of a gorillas chest or their jaws, it would rip the head off a tiger. Tigers are sneaky buggers and ambush from behind but in a fair fight the gorilla would be hard to bet against. A tiger would insane to try and fight a gorilla, they won't take on prey that will injure them like that.

9 times out of 10 the gorilla would take the tiger, really sharp teeth, massive amount of strength and more intelligent, probably just as fast as the tiger when over very short distances too
