Simpsons and Vendetta did it, this will pale in comparison to the French revolution no doubt, having beers aint much of a revolution tbh

    /facepalm

What exactly is the purpose of this revolution? The Middle East revolted because of their autocratic governments. We have a functioning democracy and an only 2/3 month old government who as of yet have done very little wrong to warrant a revolution.

Revolutionary movement? Think stupid attention-seeking copycat movement.

Probably to make up for the fact that they forgot to vote or they're too young to vote..

Sunny weather is necessary for a good revolution. Otherwise people stay at home like in England in 1848. Although the American Revolution didn't begin on July 4th, it was long underway by then.

Well what good is a revolution if we can't wear shorts?

The funny thing is they actually think a couple of people walking around Dublin wearing V for Vendetta masks are capable of achieving anything but embarrassing themselves.

    *coughs and splutters*
    "FUNCTIONING" democracy?!
What in hell are you smoking?!

What we have is an elitist, aristocratic society which bears the illusion of a republic. Cronyism utterly dilutes democracy in every way possible.

I agree the new government needs to be given a chance, but a change of government is like changing the lightbulb in a faulty socket. What we need it a complete overhaul of our entire electoral and lawmaking system.

I actually know some of the people behind this and they vote in every election and are very motivated about politics. So whatever other accusation you can make, that one is inaccurate.

We'll march on the Dail to this song...

    Lovely old rhetoric.

Anyone can put themselves forward for election to Dáil Éireann. Anyone can vote for whoever they wish to vote for relatively sure their votes will not be tampered with. Therefore we have a democracy. What comes of it is irrelevant.

Is democracy not good enough? What new electoral and lawmaking system do you propose?

Gimmicks and masks are the way forward for a revolution

The cynicism and lack of any real history of left wing leanings in Ireland will stop something like this from ever working.

Don't we have a revolution every 24 hours ? What's so special about the July 16th one ?

One that does what it was originally designed to do is fine with me. Debating in the debating house, having a judiciary which is separate from the Dail etc.......

the democracy of hypocrisy eh? what happens here really makes little difference to me now. imma keep working and studying, finish UCC and head to Germany. everything seems less bull**** riddled over there. a country that works and is continuously relied upon by our little country, and others. you know its time to leave when your parents are begging you to get out of your home country and emigrate to have a better life. Ireland....the land of Ire, filled with people who are sheep and afraid to stick their heads above the parapet, and when anyone does? god help them, 'sure you can't be doing that' . from studying irish politics it is very clear what will happen. fianna fail, f ucks things up, coalition government step in, they have no leeway too change things radically and are forced to increase taxes etc to make up for fianna fails mess. people become annoyed with the new governments extra taxation and begin to think, maybe fianna fail werent that bad afterall, they get voted back in...and the vicious cycle starts again. its happened before many times, it WILL happen again.

    I'm done,
    Auf Wiedersehen.

Anyone can indeed put themselves forward for election. . But without some serious money or a party backing them, they will struggle to spread their word . .

Calling it lovely rhetoric (without explaining exactly why you believe this to be the case) only serves to suggest that you just dont agree with the posters sentiment and are just to lazy to explain why.

Likewise, saying we live in a democratic society ignores the "options" we have as a nation/people in deciding our destiny. People used to be stoned to death and that was under the heading "justice" but most countries have reformed their interpretations of how justice should be best dished out. I think democracy in its current format could certainly do with a fine tuning . .

You might consider the possibility that this is satirical.
You probably won't though, I suppose.

The reason July is so entwined with revolutions is possibly because they are getting their "2 weeks in the sun" at the end of the month and start to get very excited about the smallest things in the lead up to their holidays..

Be that as it may suggesting that Ireland needs to do a Tahrir II by a few undergraduate socialists wearing V for Vendetta masks (At a guess) to achieve such changes is nonsense.

We do not need liberating from anything. We don't need a revolution.

I never said I agree with the masked avengers .. I was just replying to a comment on democracy . .

I think we need a revolution of thinking . .

such stereotyping, kudos. post graduate socialists maybe? post graduate neutrals? former democratic people now disgusted with their country?

no, undergraduate socialists in masks, pfft
People disgusted with their country such as those in Egypt did not rely on gimmicks. They did not make Facebook pages planning revolutions two months in advance.

    They just acted.
