I remember seeing a band called Kelsey five or six years ago and thinking they were out of this world, it was the most intricate, complicated looking, but perfect sounding music. Really thought they'd go somewhere but no sign at all. Incidentally, Estel were also playing that gig and I kinda thought they'd achieve a bit more than they have done. Obviously they're well loved in the DIY scene here but they were good enough to branch out.

The Immediate were immense too. Could have been one of the very best, and I don't think that's hyperbolic.

Always had a soft spot for Turn and NPB. Anyone remember a band called Blotooth (vaguely remember them changing their name)? Every now and again they'd release a new song and it'd be class. Had a cracking tune called Stabilizers!

Agreed. Haven't heard that song in years and it's a certifiable classic.

Used to love Blink when I was younger. Seemed to just disappear....

Believe it or not Blink are still going. Their next gig as far as I know is an anniversary gig for Derek Nally in Whelan's around July 2011. Dermot is also working as a producer for younger up and coming bands at the moment.

Filling in the blanks: "Unlike some more famous artists in Ireland and Britain, it could never be said that seasoned Dublin group Blink lacked commitment to the cause of cracking the US. Their resolve extended to abandoning their record label in the UK, Parlaphone, in 1996 after they set up their own US label and released their debut album to a favourable response. The label had wanted them to stay and record a follow-up to the album, 'A Map of The Universe', but the band decided to leave Parlaphone and return Stateside to do more touring.

The band then signed with US label Paradigm Records - home to Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins - and completed a second album as well as several rounds of US tour supports with bands like Mercury Rev, The Ramones, Moby and even namesakes Blink-182. Things were going well until Paradigm Records closed, but the band decided to go ahead with plans for their third album anyway. Which brings us to 'Deep Inside the Sound of Sadness' released in 2004"

'Talent' is a great song.. what happened to them?

they released their second album "Wake-Up & Dream" in 1998, an EP "Let It All Go" in 2000, a compilation called "Like You A Lot, Love You A Little" on a German label in 2002.. and then sorted disappeared for a few years. They bookended their career fabulously with a superb final gig in the Village in April 2007. Much respect.

    Hi,

I'm a bit late to this thread, and they've probably been mentioned already, but it's a sin that Stars of Heaven were never huge. Also the band formed after Stars of Heaven broke up called the Revenants were fantastic too. These guys lead the way for the likes of Wilco or Whiskeytown/Ryan Adams.

I want to see Charis stage a come back and take over the world but they're way too cool for that cool.gif - they seem to have been very quiet for a couple of years and then played a gig in the crane in galway at the end of last year which i found out about too late mad.gif I've never been so pissed of in my life. These guys are top quality and i'm hoping they've been squirreling away some more tunes for another album... they are simply sublime tongue.gif

u can hear some of the finest irish music here... www.charisireland.com/

they have the stchtuff to do it, follow this link & skip to seven minutes into it - sums up how i feel about it except for that they're maybe they're just not thick enough! pacman.gifhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrujV0PG_7k

Any of you older people remember Free Booze, The Atrix or The New Versions ?

    Talking '78 - '81 I think.

Also, Winter's Reign or Zero Zero for the rockers.
