Use 3 sim card on unlocked Samsung Europa

I recently got a free sim card from 3. My intention is to use this sim while roaming in Italy. I have an unlocked galaxy europa on a meteor bill pay. When I put my 3 sim into this phone it works fine for calls and texts but wont work for any data applications. The reason I got it in the first place is so I can use data in Italy at low costs (3 have excellent options for roaming). Is there any way I can get around this?
