That's me done. Even though the weather was crap this morning, the turnout was good and between 12 noon and around 2:30 pm, when I left, the weather was good.

There was far more, than what is in my pictures and loads of trade stands, too. Well, and the agriculutural display, which doesn't trigger my interest.

^ that W116 looks in great condition. what a car for a daily driver
I always thought they were very imposing, as an S-class ought to be, but with a certain graceful elegance.
A manual C107 is a rare beast, no?

A friend of mine bought this in the UK and just arrived home with it... A little light recommissioning and she fired up. Lovely sound to it...

Triumph Spitfire tub and chassis, the tub as you can see has been made to look like an Etype front and rear. While the engine is a Alfa 2.0 lt TC coupled with a 5 speed box.

I was in Wolfsburg last week, went to VW's Autostadt. Part of it is called the Zeithaus and has a load of impeccably restored classics. Well worth a visit.

1950 VW Bus. This one tends to get a lot of attention from older Germans, Sinalco was the biggest selling soft drink for several generations before Coke took over the market a few decades ago.

    GermanyMay2011010.jpg

1936 Auto Union Type C. The first GP car to put the driver ahead of the engine, the car was phenomenally succesful in the mid to late 1930's. This is not an original but a fully functional hand built replica from the 1990's. 6l engine, V16 520bhp @ 5000rpm, 340kmh which were crazy figures for 75 years ago.

    GermanyMay2011019.jpg

Hanomag 2/10 "Kommissbrot" from the late 1920's. An attempt at a car for the masses it failed partly because of its looks. One of the first cars with a sedan look to it, it had one cylinder, rear engine with 500 cm3 giving 10 bhp. Note it has only one headlight (allowed at the time), is a RHD and it has only one door, on the left. Mocked for years, highly sought after today.

    GermanyMay2011038.jpg

    Bugatti Type 15 from 1912
    GermanyMay2011041.jpg

BMW 328 from just before WWII
    GermanyMay2011048.jpg
    GermanyMay2011050.jpg

For me the highlight, a Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic, a beautiful beautiful car.

    GermanyMay2011055.jpg

1935 Skoda Popular 420. First car built with a transaxle layout to improve weight distribution. 995cm3, 4 cyl, 20 bhp. Got the Czechs motoring, its their "Beetle" or "2cv". Note its a RHD, they only changed from driving on the left to drinving on the right after being annexed by Germany in 1938.

    GermanyMay2011056.jpg

1899 Benz Velo Comfortable. First series produced car, first "compact" car. This car was shipped to South Africa as new has never been restored and is in perfect functioning order. 1045cm3, 3.5 bhp, 350kg, 25kmh top speed.

    GermanyMay2011068.jpg
    GermanyMay2011069.jpg
    GermanyMay2011074.jpg

First ever car, not original but a true working replica.

    GermanyMay2011085.jpg

1935 Horch 830. First German V8, Horch were hugely succesful in the 1930's and had the biggest share of the market for luxury cars. next time you watch a WWII documentary look more carefully at the officers cars. They tend to be Horch, not Mercedes. 3.5l V8, 75bhp.

    Fiat 500 Topolino.
    GermanyMay2011106.jpg

1953 Lloyd LT 500. The worlds first minivan? Designed by Carl Borgward, Lloyd was for a while in the mid 50's the third biggest selling maker in Germany after VW and Opel. This is a 6 seater, it used the then relatively new idea of FWD for more space. Initially available as a 2 stroke and with plywood panels like this one it eventually got metal panels and a normal 4 stroke engine.

2 stroke, 2 cyl, 385 cm3, 13 bhp. 600kg, v/max ca 75kmh. Note that the spare wheel is inside the car beside the middle row.

Porsche Type 60 prototype, the third test car and the first one that was used for extensive testing around Germany. It was found to be good enough to be used as a basis for the Beetle. This is an exact replica of the 1935 car, they were all destroyed, VW had this one built a few years ago. You can see the Tatra influence especially well in the photos taken from the rear.

    VW 412

K70, very rare now. launched in 1970 it was VW's first water cooled engine, and their first FWD car. Based on the NSU and succeeded by the Passat only 211,000 were built in four years.

An early Passat. Along with the Audi 50/VW Polo it was the car that saved VW in the early 70's and kept them goping until the Golf came along.

VW 147 "Fridolin". commissioned by the German Post Office in the early 60's as a delivery van it used bits out of the VW parts bin. Engine, axles, gearbox from the Beetle, chassis from the Ghia, other parts as they founf them. Only just over 6,000 were built, they were very expensive, rusted like there was no tomorrow and are very rare and sought after today. Probably less than 250 left anywhere. This is a partly restored VW service van that is on loan to VW.

Lovely lines on the K70. Mate had one years ago; sold it to b-i-l for £200, who then proceeded to wreck the engine through lack of maintenance. I sourced a great replacement engine for him for £50, but he didn't want to go to the bother. He sold it for £20 for stock car racing. I wasn't in a position to take it from him at the time.....

Window down, radio off - These cars sounds lovely and looks simply great. Some of you will maybe disagree but Muscle cars are one of the greatest cars in the world. Period. ;)

Shame that I was in my boring daily driver and couldn't keep up with him.

    South Link Road, Cork.
