Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was just thinking recently about all the ferries that run in Ireland and I think I have compiled them all.

Tarbert - Killimer linking with Kerry with Clare probably the most popular internal Ferry in Ireland serving the longest distance, very expensive and unless your car is a guzzler it is cheaper to drive to Clare or Galway via Limerick.

Waterford Passage East, a place where if Ireland was still a a proper economic entity should see a new tunnel or large bridge built and the road to Rosslare upgraded to increase trade ties with the UK and South and West of Ireland

Strangford Lough in Down, don't know much about it but it saves a lot of driving for the locals I'd say.

Lough Foyle Ferry between Donegal and Derry, possibly the shortest "international" ferry between NI and ROI.

Ferry from Buncrana to the Fanad Peninsula also from Donegal.

Beara Island Ferry and Pontoon in West Cork

    <snip>

There are numerous foot ferries to the Aran islands and islands up off Mayo. I know some of the Aran Island ferrys were a total rip-off when I went out there is 2005 and I was glad to see some of them being repossessed recently as that guy reaped what he sowed with his prices €50 FFS!!!

Feel free to add to my list!

They did. The Cork Rosslare road crosses a very big bridge North of Waterford City. A bridge here is not required as there is no major roads nearby.

Passage West to Cobh in Cork.

Liffey Ferries from one side to the other and also upstream AFAIK.

Baltimore to Sherkin Island in West Cork.

Valentia Island Ferry from outside Cahirciveen to Knightstown on Valentia Island.

    Cleggan (near Clifden) to Inishbofin.

Clare Island to Roonagh Quay (near Louisburgh).

    Tory Island, pax only:

Both the Arranmore companies will do vehicular deliveries to the other Donegal islands on a charter basis.

I didn't know about this thread and created a comprehensive list in this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056835372

I see this topic as more transport than infrastructure, so I'm closing this thread.

The New Ross Bypass is likely to change the dynamics in the area, putting hte squeeze on the ferry.
