Unemployment and Dole Leechers.

We're all aware of the high unemployment rates in this country and the fact that a large number of those claiming the dole are merely leeching with no intention of every actually looking for a job, while the others are genuinely unemployed and can't find work.

Why not take those who do want to work and train them as dole inspectors. They can weed out those who are not seeking employment (and thus not entitled to jobseekers allowance/benefits) and tell them to get f*cked. I suspect they'd do well at the job given they've actually needed the benefits while these scumbags claimed out of laziness, giving them a bad name.

That way you kill two birds with one stone.

    What ya think?

Did you not see Terminator 2? Machines operating machines?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Ha - it just might work - give the inspector weapons like baseball bats and i think you have a great idea

I think schemes should be implemented to divide unused plots of land into allotments and let people on the dole, should they wish, to grow their own veg and herbs etc.

They get to pass the time, supplement their income by growing their own food, prepare the nation for any future catastrophe whereby we need to be self-sustainable, and get the chance to become one with Mother Earth.

It is a well thought out idea, in which every nuisance has been thoroughly examined. I am positive this scheme will be adopted in the next 6 to 8 months.

From the detailed information above, I too believe that every necessary aspect of this proposal has been sufficiently investigated and vetted to ensure its complete success.

All the best with this scheme Seachmall - You have my full backing

We had what is considered 'full employment'.

The main problem is that there are **** all jobs.
Why? Because the economy has gone down the toilet.

Meanwhile, the government have convinced you to focus on 'dole leaches' to keep you busy while they are driving the country over the biggest cliffs they can find.

Look behind you, NO REALLY, YOU MUST LOOK BEHIND YOU RIGHT NOWWWW!

I think we should offer to run a Zombie Survival Course for FAS.

    Trademarking this idea. ™

Create renewable energy farms in all major towns and cities, and for anyone who cannot secure employment or refuses employment - could be selected at random to assist in their construction. More renewable resources for us, less people at home bored off their minds.

I think there are a heck of a lot of people who are more concerned with what other people get as their entitlements. All I see are begrudgers with virtual torches and pitchforks getting all riled up at poor unfortunates who have lost their jobs as a result of this recession.

I know there are folk who just go from 18 to dole, and never work, maybe thats the sort you mean to tackle. I don't agree with this myself, but isn't it for the dole office to sort out but they wont as that group is a tough one, which should be tackled in conjunction with social workers.

TBH I wouldn't tackle any of them either, they would cut ya! Why not recruit the ones who have never worked, there would be no arguing with them.. tho the stabbing rates within the social welfare dept may increase. :)

I love all this, "re-train" stuff too. I think it is condescending to think retraining is easy for highly educated and experienced people who have committed themselves to a career path which isn't hiring at present, shur nowhere is, and telling them to simply retrain, apart from being a little insulting, it is pointless reshuffling to get people off the live register. People who are genuinely unemployed like I was, will seek retraining themselves. They are not the puppets of those who are lucky to still have a job. They paid into this system too before they lost their jobs.

Tackle unemployment by hiring a massive amount of civil servants? I envisage no problems arising from this idea. Goodbye budget deficit.

WOW, well that be a TINY bit harsh. I think that levels of intelligence vary, levels of initiative vary, levels of confidence vary!! To be honest, I think it's just part of life that there is always going to be that strata of society (if that is the right word) who are virtually unemployable.

I went to a good school, had my parents supporting me every inch of the way, I have 13 years experience and yet I find myself without work and I know how difficult it is to get back into the workplace! I have actually tried (and I continue to try).

I think the NUMBER one thing the government could do for me would be to have subsidised after school care clubs. If we weren't in a recession and there were actually jobs out there, that would be the thing that would get me back into the workplace.

I would like to see tougher measures brought in to place to prevent fathers from getting out of paying for their children.

They can declare themselves bankrupt, move abroad, be a sahd if they had a new partner, just be self-employed, or even just go on the dole themselves. Their much-maligned single parent x's may be stigmatised for being on benefits, but they at least have a JOB, they are raising children. The amount of these impregnators (you couldn't call them fathers) who skip off without a backward glance leaving their children's mothers to raise them and the state to fund their selfishness.... that needs to be sorted out. YES there are legal procedures to get maintenance, but you can't get blood out of a stone, and often women will be in the position of not being able to afford solicitors but not being eligible for legal aid (if theyhave a job, even a low paid one)

Couple of quick questions before i reach a conclusion on your proposal...

How much are you planning on paying these doles inspectors and what kind of contracts will they have? How do you plan on having them check if people are genuinely looking for work or not? Where will be the training be done and who will cover the cost?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,041 ✭✭✭Seachmall

How much are you planning on paying these doles inspectors
3 Mars bars and a toaster.
and what kind of contracts will they have?
    Hourly contracts.
How do you plan on having them check if people are genuinely looking for work or not?
    Hide in the bushes.
Where will be the training be done
I've a free house this weekend, so we could start there and see where it goes.
and who will cover the cost?
I can put some money towards it from my dole allowance, and I'd hope others will chip in.

Do the dole inspectors get to keep their dole and if they do would than not be classed as working and signing and therefore i think we need to employ more dole heads to hunt the dole inspectors who are after the lazy dole heads.

Reading from some of the posts here I think some people are missing the point. We have a vast qty of dole leeches in this country. I live in a tiny village with at least a dozen of them. Now here's the critical point, when we had loads and loads of jobs and near full employment these people were still not working.!! They have no intention of ever getting a job. They live at home with mammy and daddy and over years of training have developed a strategy on how to survive on €200 per week.
They are spongers , scroungers , scumbags who are absolutely valueless to our economy. Why don't we cut the bo**ix out of their weekly benefits. Instead of €200 give them €100 to survive. That's €100 per person X 100,000 of the lepery headed b'stards = a saving of €10 million per week or €520 million per annum.
I have absolutely no grievance with people who were working and unfortunately have lost their jobs, they deserve financial support. But if the 12 pricks in my little town can survive on €200, never intend to work and even openly laugh and discuss how they can sneak into a round of drinks and get back out before it's their round, what hope have we.

the idea of people that want to work but cant and the people that dont wanna work. The 1st question is how long should it take to get a job. Last time i was unemployed it was only 2 months before i found a new job. But i have heard of anything up to 5 years. What job are the people out looking for. Is it a case someone who was an Accounting on 80k a year is now turning down 35k a year jobs as it beneath him.

Damn you, took the words right out of my mouth!!!!

A simple solution is to check who has been on the dole in receipt of JSA / JSB for the last ten years through the boom when there was an abundance of work going and this would give an idea of those who are really intent on leeching and never getting a job. These are the people who should be sent out to clean the streets, paint public areas or shopfronts, and clean all the beaches and beauty spots around the country etc... and if they refuse just stop their dole.

I cant see any point persecuting those people who have genuinely lost their job in the last few years and who are actually out there every day looking for more work.

There is plenty of community work needs doing that the leeches could be getting on with

For the longterm unemployed, would a better option not be to have a system in place where the recipient must meet with an employment officer every so often, who can offer them a choice of jobs furnished to them by companies looking for staff.

If the recipient turns down the job, or fails to gain employment after, say, three interviews, their dole is cut.

This way, the SW know you have been seeking work and are not simply relying on the dole to get by in life? Seems like a fair system to me.

    A dozen, you say?

Since it's such a tiny pimple of a village, why don't you and your fellow decent folks grab them pitchforks and hound those workshy leeches out beyond the huts and tell them never to rev their beamers near you again?

While many are genuinely looking for work there's many who are happy to sit and get 'free' money.
A mate of mine set up interviews for a post with a high profile company and nobody turned up,only one bothered to even contact him(by text) to say they couldn't make it.
I've had the same experience-I booked in a dozen interviews for a job and 2 people turned up,how can unemployed people be so busy that they can't be bothered to even attend interviews?
If you have no intention of looking for work or accepting a job then have your benefits cut.
On the other hand I know highly qualified people who are taking even the most menial jobs just to have some kind of income and a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
