If we are serious about moving on, about healing old wounds, something like that need to happen. People need the truth, people deserve the truth and an acknowledgement at the least of what happened, from both sides. Then people can have a sense of closure and can move on.

Inviting the queen over and playing happy families (by locking down Dublin) and accusing everyone who brings up outstanding issues such as the Dublin/Monaghan bombing as having a chip or living in the past is not helpful.

You do realize that by improving relations between the two countries it'll increase the likelihood of this happening. Look at Camerons apology for Bloody Sunday. It would never have happened if relations between the two countries were hostile.

We dont know how the Gardaí got the flags. All we know is that they threw them in the bin.

    Where would you put them?

Way to miss the numbers. A few hundred, if even, protested. A few million went to work and had no objection. Statistics there ya go.

And it's not possible to oppose this protest and go to work? I beg to differ with your extraordinary assumption: I opposed it and I went to work.

Apart from the bolded part I don't see what's wrong with the comment. It's opinionated but surely you are not trying to censor that?

Any and all comments on mod actions by PM as per charter. This is your one and only warning.

Maybe you could refresh my mind, where was the fighting with gardaí when Prince Albert of Monaco was here?

Psst, don't tell them our President went to the Netherlands a few weeks ago, a monarchy and don't tell them their favourite holiday destination, Spain, is a monarchy too.

Where's your evidence that they were "junkies" and "scum"? Let's stick to what you know, not what stereotype you'd prefer. There's an irony in accusing protesters of being essentially unreasonable when their opponents here are making all sorts of unsubstantiated claims against them.

I agree with you on this. But look at the scale of it and the ages of those shown on tv ? The fans of Burnley could organise a bigger riot. It just does not register as a significant political protest like the miners strike, the poll tax riots and the anti-Iraq war protests.

Maybe it will really kick off tomorrow and we'll move into a Justin Bieber size disturbance.

He also said they are never going to do any more investigations. Truth for the Irish is too costly.

The Netherlands produced King Billy as well, one of the causes of the troubles between Ireland and Britian through the centuries. Yet no protests then.

But there are local scum, and they do riot. Its not as if any particular reason is a bad one as far as they are concerned, the student protests over there should have made that clear.

You are clutching at straws here. But hey, someone who did not think there was no junkies or scumbags involved in the protests does not need convincing from me, lol. They were the cream of Irish society, the brightest and best.

It is amazing, that people can so freely and quickly call people who oppose complete lockdown of their own city, scumbags, junkies or an embarrassment.

This place has stopped being fun.

I'd have bigger issues with the Catholic church than the current British Monarchy.

Interesting. We haven't had a thread about the Catholic Church here in how long- a week? Or are you contending that it's not possible to have an issue with the British monarchy and the Catholic Church at the same time? Ha, I'll gladly prove you wrong there, should you set up the thread.

In fact, given that the greatest allies of the British government in Ireland since the end of the Penal Laws have been the Catholic Church, it's really not clear at all what your point is here.

Eh have a problem, write a letter to somebody. You don't set fire to a dumpsters and roll them towards gardaí. What next, have a problem with Clonliffe Road being restricted for the All Ireland Finals, grab a few bricks and start pelting them down the street.

Yeah, the economy's fucked for decades, your wages/social welfare are/is going to decrease, there's going to be extensive social disharmony - but, hey, the plebs have got a distraction, the same plebs who are calling the anti-monarchy protesters "morons", "idiots" and "stupid". Now that's irony.

Anti-monarchy protesters? Hardly! They are specifically anti-British monarchy, but there is no one cause to their protests. They are a mixture of anti-monarchy, anti-British monarchy, remember Bobby Sands & Co, unforgiving of British oppression, 32 county Republic etc. So many causes that they are lumping together into a general protest which results in their messages getting diluted into a big mass of piss.

And despite the economic woes of the country, I still find myself happy and optimistic about my life in this country. A good economy doesn't necessarily equal a happy nation.

Did you watch the news? Did they look like they were having a peaceful protest to you? Fcuking scumbags of the highest order only out to cause trouble and in the process give our country a bad name!
