    Classy lads, real classy.

It's called stirring the shite - potential to cause violence. Also, it's a fire hazard.

Well any protest has the potential to cause violence. Fire hazard? Seriously?

It's a really widespread (and as far as I'm concerned legit) means of protest.

    Yes.

There was only a hundred or so Celtic jersey wearing people out on the street who can't move forward.

Of course, Ireland having such a great tradition of street protest, that means the other 6 million people in Ireland who didn't protest are in favour of this British royal visit?

You really didn't think about this beyond the pro-British royalist soundbite, did you.

Is it? It seems like a lot of people in this thread are just having a bitchfest about republicanism and people exercising their freedom of speech.

Free speech does not have to involve gross acts such as flag burning and missile throwing.

Genuine question but does anyone know what approx % of the country fall into this tracksuit-wearing, british football team watching, Irish sun buying, queen objecting demographic?

Some of them may have left the jersey in the washing, but here's one for starters:

so you have got 1, now tell me how that equates to 100?

Can you give evidence to support this nonsense? No, you can't. So please desist from talking nonsense.

As for being "stuck in the past" - you're the one cheerleading the visit of the head of an unelected institutionally sectarian British monarchy which was last "reformed" (to exclude Catholics, of course) in 1701.

Well done on lecturing Irish republican democrats on being "stuck in the past" for resisting our country giving respect to this deeply archaic and anti-democratic cult of British royalism. Ireland has a great future - what you're supporting, on the other hand, is the past, and a quite horrible past by any objective non-British standard.

because polling company's done surveys and found shock horror OVER 80% of respondents had no problem or encouraged the visit

did you read ANY news papers or watched tv or possibly the poll on boards ? all positive for this event - so you prove all these organizations wrong please or you stop taking nonsense

Why is it that all the eirigi supporters shown at protests are dressed awfully and have very short buzzcut gelled hair. They're quite horrible to look at actually:(

Lol, you can't win this debate. The protesters was mainly JUNKIES and absolute scumbags, not all but the majority. It is hilarious. I think 6 million people looked at the "quality" of protesters and actually got sick. Absolute dregs of society.

We need to learn from the past, not repeat it.
Yeah, people need to learn from the past, instead of brushing over it like a lot of people are suggesting. A Fine Gael politician was shown up for being a complete clown on radio last week after he went of on an anti-republican, anti-Sinn Féin rant. There's a lot of people really need to grow up.

They are not doing any such thing and you know it.

Several people have said peaceful protest is fine. Again the violence and irrational hatred is the issue.
    Yes, they are.

I don't need to prove anything about the opinion of the other 6 million people. I can say with relative certainty though that they do not particularly care one way or the other such that they feel the need to go out and make fools of themselves in the international media.

How exactly are you planning to back up your claim that most people do not approve of the visit?

I'd love to hold a 'Scumbags out of Dublin' protest across the road from them..

that wouldnt leave many in the city though would it!

And where would they all go, surely you wouldnt inflict them on others!?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the young lads burning the flag and chanting like they're at a football match may not have the most well-thought out political views in the country.

Call it a crazy hunch but when you behave like a baying mob people tend to disregard whatever finely tuned political point you're trying to make.

Our own head of state office has been criticized by the UN because of its requirement for a religious oath. Hardly leaves us in a position to be wagging our finger at the UK does it?

Democrats eh? Does that include all the lads who pointedly ignore the wished of the Irish people who say “not in our name”?

The general consensus on After Hours is that protesting = making a fool of yourself. It was particularly hilarious for protests against the financial situation of the country considering they were all bitching about the financial situation in other threads! :D Nobody gave a shíte what they thought though because they didn't make their voices heard.

One good thing is the level of muggings, robberies and other drug related crimes are probably down today since the perps are too busy protesting about Lizzy.

Jaysus, I doubt there's a single 'protestor' in those photos whose name doesn't end in 'o'.

Well done you on being able read my mind and know my innermost thoughts on British Royalty
