Give it a rest. I find the "let's forget the past despite part of Ireland remaining under British occupation" brigade to be infinitely more embarrassing.

Forget about the violent methods to end British occupation. Thats embarrassing. We don't have to forget about unifying the Island. Do it through peaceful and engaging means. I'm delighted the queen has visited.

Listening to BBC radio news right now, they did a vox pop - the skanger accents opposed the visit (one sounded like he needed his fix) while the well educated approved.*

*obviously no small sample can be extrapolated to cover all people.

And of course you don't have a similar comment for those who showed up to welcome the British queen, or indeed who were allowed on Joe Duffy to speak in favour of it, or who had the time to rant, in the middle of the day, against anybody who doesn't share the enthusiasm for this visit on this thread.

    Is that your bias showing?

ye coz everybody would want to spend an day with those lovely fellas! is it bias when you see a group that look like a big bunch of knackers and you think "there's a a big bunch of knackers, think i'll cross the street"?

Few hundred clowns cause a scuffle, meanwhile hundreds of thousands of decent Dublin residents continue on with their lives.

Wish we could invent a time machine and ship the few hundred back off to the 1970s where they (and their 'politics') belong.

i dont think it was necassary at all to play the british national anthem. it was a disgrace to play it where the men and women who gave their lives for national freedom.

Who are the knuckly-dragging morons, the people who glorify a monarchy, or the people who complain about people exercising their freedom of speech despite attempts to censor them?

Are you still talking about the ignorant uneducated dross that joins the murderous British Army or are you on another subject now?

Yeah, thankfully the government isn't throwing away money on frivolous Royal visits and instead putting it into job creation and education...

Not this crap again! How many times does it need to be spelt out that the publicity dividend for Ireland of this visit, if it is allowed to proceed peacefully, is going to far outweigh the costs.

Maybe the majority of people don't live in the past and have better thaings to worry about tbh, like paying their mortgage or keeping hold of their job.

So what are these other valid reaosn cos obvioulsy you know more than the mayor of sligo?

The very fact that there were two differant national Anthems makes their efforts even more significant. The British National Anthem was played to awknowledge THEIR Queen and ours was played to awknowledge our President. I think it was even more important and highlighted our independance from the Monarch even more that their Anthem was played seperatly to ours.

Some people will just look for the negatives in everything, others will choose to see how positive a step this is for our country and in awknowledging the brave soles who faught for our chance to have the Queen over as a visitor (not our monarch)!

It's not exactly great publicity with them showing how Dublin has been shut down for the visit. I suppose all the Brits won't bother with sun holidays and will come here instead! :pac:

Not this crap again! How many times does it need to be spelt out that there is likely to be no publicity bonus from this, a huge bill for the visit that will be footed by the public, and massive disruption to local business on the days that the queen is here.
