The reason the public can't see her is the reason she should not be here. It's premature and will do more harm than good locally.

Will it be the same when Charles is King, or William. I understand the reasons, but it still does not reflect well on the rest of us who are prepared to asign history, to history. We are suppose to have moved on, but watching this, the news, and reading some of the comments here we have an awful long way to go yet.

Some of the arguements that this was to promote Ireland to the UK tourist market, wonder what the UK viewers are thinking when they see no Irish people on the streets greeting her.

I thought it was because you guys claimed no-one wanted her here, and therefore no-one would have turned up to see her ? I'm confused ?

The reason the public can't see her is because a bunch of thugs threatened violence and followed that up with bomb scares, necessitating additional security measures.

We wouldn't be stereotyping again Liam, would we?

Why are they showing her all the monuments and stuff? Bring her to The George and get her ****faced, dancing to some Wham and hook her up with a bear.

I reckon the reasons nobody is out there are:

    1) They don't care. The Prince of Monaco didn't get a crowd either, and didn't they abandon an address by Obama at Croker because they were afraid they wouldn't fill the 80,000 seats?

    2) They're afraid that one of those groups of protesters will kick it off.

    3) They're afraid of a bomb - there has been a significant increase in viable devices found over the last 2 weeks

    4) It's 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon, people do have work to go to.

    5) The massive security effort has made it too much hassle so most people avoid it.

It is a bit sad, but that's the way it is.

Sky News cut to the protesters

BBC & RTÉ don't seem to be doing that at all

"Journalist Kevin Myers says he never thought he would hear God save the Queen played at the place of tribute to men who fought against the British crown - "a moment of solemnity and beauty"

Jesus we'll never hear the end of it now from Kevin. His proudest moment no doubt, despite not getting an invitation to dinner :D

Hmmm, want too bad, GSTQ was a bit much though, those men did not fight and die to have that played while the freedom they fought for has still not been attained.

eh yeah, it has been attained. The Republic of Ireland and all that ya know.

Playing the national anthem of the head of state of a visiting dignatory was entirely right and proper.

For some of us it is not 'history'. What is so hard to understand about that?

    +1

The city is like some banana republic where the beggars have been cleared away because they are offensive. It portrays Ireland as an unfriendly place where the populace either stayed away or had to be kept at bay for the Queen's safety. Sad but this is the image that the knuckle draggers have helped be broadcast to the World. Ireland of the welcomes. :(

This thread really does attract the ignorant today so it does.

Some-one's not as avid a Phil the Greek fan as I am. I think other people may recognise the above as what it was, a take-off of Prince Philip's scottish remark to the driving instructor. Am I the only one laughing at my own jokes, ah well :)
