Episode was another strong one. Although I am finding the fight scenes to look a bit cumbersome.

Well they are either wearing heavy armour (in the case of Clegane and Loras) or heavy clothing in the case of Stark and Jamie and swinging very heavy swords about so the fighting is going to be cumbersome. It's certainly not going to look like a lightsaber fight.

Tyrion got rightly stuck in with that shield, didn't he?

Really enjoyed this episode as well. Thought the scene with Varys and Littlefinger was brilliant, Gillen was the perfect choice and is exactly how I imagined him.

    I missed the whole
Renly being gay thing as well. Well spotted!

In relation to the whole cumbersome fighting, I'd imagine thats just the way it came out rather than the actors being told to slow it down due to heavy attire or swords. But still I'm extremely happy with how the show is turning out so far.

Perhaps fighting in armour with big swords would be cumbersome in reality? Not sure what people want. I'm loving this show. Weeks never seemed so long. We should try and predict the ending of each episode as they seem to like the dramatic. I was convinced they would end an episode with Tyrion being arrested by Cat. Now I'm convinced that next weeks episode will end with
Littlefinger's knife at Ned's throat saying I told you not to trust me

I'm just wondering how they broached that subject with the kid actor's mother. "Eh we need him to suck on a woman's nipple. Just for a brief moment." "Can I mom? Can I?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 187 ✭✭O-Deazy

Haha.. I thought that myself! Can't have been the most comfortable of scenes to shoot.

I had a good look at it and the set up, I reckon it was a prosthetic.
It's honestly the only way to get around it with out the issues of child protection and standards in the work place with a minor. Looked like it was worn on a harness with the cloak over it. Have to say the Eerie looked well, from the throne room to the skydoor.

Another great episode. I don't find the action very exciting though :P Much prefer the character interaction. It's what keeps it interesting.

    I also hadn't really copped
    Renly and Loras
but I've just seen it a bit more obviously in Storm of Swords part 2 now. Makes sense looking back on other events

Great episode all round and can't wait for the next one :D

Hmm, too much has to happen before that scene, more likely the end of episode 7. I'm gonna guess
Either Viserys being crowned or Ned coming to the truth just as Robert is being brought back from the hunt.

Really enjoyed that episode, best so far.

    The
    Renly and Loras
thing slots in well with the characters described in the book. However, Loras' puny physique doesn't fit well with his assertion of training to be a fighter since he was a boy.

Poor Jory, one minute he was giving that bit of fluff the eye in the whorehouse, the next he was getting it in the eye (literally!).

The fight on the way to The Vale was gruesome too, lots of blood flying and throats getting slashed. Bronn strikes me as being rather older than in the books, but that's common for most characters.

Aidan Gillen is growing into the Littlefinger role as well, you can be sure that he will turn out to be a treacherous little git.

The swordfighting is a bit cumbersome, but I guess swinging a two-handed broadsword took a bit of doing in reality, and most fights wouldn't last very long before one or both opponents were too tired to continue.

Roll on next week, the fun is only just beginning.

You are probably right. I had forgotten some of the things that happened between now and then.

Aye, he should definitely be younger. But I do like the actor they've gotten for him!

Didn't really have an age issue with Bronn.
It's all about the attitude and presence with him for me, and they seem to have gotten it right...

Absolutely loved the added scene between Robert and Cersei. Makes the whole 17 years of marriage a bit more believable when they can talk civily with each other every now and then.
Perhaps a hint that she's made her peace with the decision to kill him?
    .
[The Loras / Renly scene was a good addition in relation to showing his motivation for his later actions.
    .

The verbal sparring between Varys and Littlefinger was a nice touch, as was the confirmation that it was Varys and Ilyrio that Arya overheard in the dungeons. Am I the only one disappointed with the Dragon skulls? More dusty yellow than polished black.

yeah loved the varys\little finger exchange. And i got to read the books again, renly and loras i had no idea.

I'm going to try and fit in a reread of the books after the season ends, but before the new book is released on July 12th. It will be tight enough I reckon. I might start the first book before the end of the series.

I bet he is enjoying a good sales bump for the books based on the show release as well.

I too am of the opinion that Westeros sword fighting is bludgeoning each other to the ground. Syrio talks about the Braavosi style being all about movement.

Ned describes the Westerosi fighting style as "slash and parry" during his conversation with Arya when he finds Needle.

Did you mean the Whispering Woods? :p
Nah - that'll just be filmed in some woods somewhere. Cheap as chips.

Loved last night's episode. Some better action and scenery.
The Renly/Loras thing strikes me as very HBO. While the books only barely hint at their sexuality (just finished a re-run through them) for some reason HBO thought they had to "out" them big time.
No matter though. All in the name of TV!

Also, Loras looks like Leo DiCaprio in Titanic - barely able to hold a sword, much less dismount The Mountain.

As George RR Martin would say...

    Great line from book 2:
Renly: "my wife came to me a maid"
Stannis "and she will remain so in your marriage bed"

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,619 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dades

    Indeed!
And much is made by the Tyrells of Marjorie supposedly being still a maid when she's betrothed to Tommen.

    I didn't spot the
    Loras & Renly
thing in the books either and fair enough playing it up for TV, but did those lip smacking and sucking sound effects have to go on for so damn long! :pac:

So far I'm very pleased. Like everyone I think some character or another isn't exactly how you would have imagined but I don't think anyones doing a bad job. The entire bunch of lads at the wall are too old by several years but it doesn't change the relationships and story so it's all good.

Theon was more loyal in the book and he is to a certain extent in the series too. I think more people mentioning how he is essentially a hostage etc... is just building up for what happens further down the road.

All in all, lots of nice boobs and it's pretty true to the books. What's not to like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,309 ✭✭✭giftgrub

I'm longtime sci fi and fantasy fan but somehow never got round to these books.

I picked up the first one after watching the first few episodes on TV. Really liking it so far...the first thing that hit me was the agesm how young they all are.

Only about 100 pages in but its great stuff.

Looked like they fleshed the crowd out a bit for this episode during the joust scene which was good, it looked a little sparse in the previous episode and as some people said pity about it not being in the city or any cgi buildings in the background cant remember if it was in the city or not in the book long time since i read it, also the verbal sparring between the spider and littlefinger was excellent :D
