I've never seen as many gardaí on Dublin's streets. What's the betting they won't be found next month when their hours will be cut back to make up for this expense? Ah well, sure doesn't it look impressive.

Funny, there was no huge extra cost and inconvenience for the people of Dublin last week due to this handful of nutjobs.

Seems to me we are being charged and inconvenienced so our political establishment can play self indulgent arent-we-important-on-the-international-stage games when they should be managing the orderly collapse of our republic (which they caused).

It's the British National Anthem. She gets to hear it a lot I'd wager.

There was no hassle when they played it in Croke Park for the rugby a few years back. And I seem to remember there was a spot o'trouble with the British up there some years ago.

Yeah, but anthems are expected at international matches. They couldn't have not played it.

In the Garden of Rememberance it just seems a little bit unnecessary, especially when there seems to be little need for it to be played. I always thought the garden was for the memories of Irish citizens that died for independence.

Im in no way a fenian, but I just think things like this will just cause anger when they could have easily been ignored.

O'Connell St is a sea of Gardai, I've never seen anything like it in my life. It's fairly likely that all they'll be doing is searching handbags and giving tourists directions.

It's hilarious that some people won't even admit to themselves that there's a real threat to security during the Queen's visit despite all the bomb threats and a viable device being found yesterday.

Disrespectful is what our west brit establishment do very well.
The British and Irish heads of state standing next to each other as equals and the respective national anthems being played one after the other is disrespectful?

This is exactly what Pearse et al died for, to be treated as equals and it seems very fitting to me and not one bit disrespectful.

As long as Mrs Windsor sees no evil & hears no evil, the visit will be paraded as a success. Notwithstanding the bad taste, bitterness and disgust it will have left behind.
I know in my heart that there are a lot of people holding their tongues because they are quite frankly, conflicted.
They have no wish to align themselves with the dissidents but can't help feeling the cold chill of disrespecting our forefathers. That sensitivity has also been ignored today.
Pious and false rhetoric has trumped silent dignity.

I think most people realise that there may very well be various threats of violence, but it's going to happen with or without heavy security presence. To be honest I think a lot of people are just buying into the sensationalism of the media.

I dunno. I think if you were more likely to get annoyed it would be with it being played at the sight of a massacre.

Anyone's who is worried about the costs incurred by the queens visit. Don't be. The 7 billion they gave us in bail outs will more than cover it...:pac::pac::pac:

They didnt "give" us anything, they loaned "us" money at a punitive interest rate to prop up some failed private banks to prevent a knock-on effect to their own economy

Our forefathers fought and died to make this moment possible. It's disrespectful to dismiss their sacrifice in order to hold a grudge.

They loaned us money at a rate approx half the going market rate.

    They didn't have to.

I am pretty sure figures are unavailable as to how much in bonds British banks hold in the six guaranteed Irish institutions.

Far more imporant would be the major trade, tourism and investment links between us.

    Just walked down Parnell street.

Some tourists were taking photos of a couple of lads hanging outside the Sinn Fein office and playing tunes out the window.

Seems a fitting thing to be on the list of anachronistic Oirish things to do when here.

Think you're after the wrong person, C. I've no fondness for the British monarchy or our politicians but I can't see how they can get around providing security for the visiting head of state of our main geogrpahical/trading neighbour

Anyone know whereabouts the courthouse is in Drogheda? Apparently it's been evacuated, as have the courthouses in Dundalk and Monaghan.

They can get around it by not inviting the silly old tart in the first place. They have no business inviting her here at huge cost and tying up practically the entire state apparatus while we are in the middle of the worst crisis in the states history.

It just shows how out of touch the establishment are with the feeling on the ground in this country. Nero fiddles while Rome burns.
