Tracking down service records for British medals?

After getting some excellent info on another item i put up i was wondering if anyone could give me a rundown of how to find information about a named medal? Its a crimean medal named to an royal engineer i believe. Is there a free site where i could track the guy down and see what his story is? Thanks all.

You could try the Victorian Wars Forum or the British Medals Forum,you will need to sign up but the lads are very helpful

Also you can by a credit and download his service records (if exist) from www.findmypast.co.uk . Also medal roles should be available there.
