Genuine question here, given that it's been "kinda" raised already combined with the fact that I'm just back from hols where we'd laughed at an ad for an "Irish" bar offering a "full English breakfast".....

......is there a massive difference between the Scottish & Welsh breakfasts ? Given the similarities between the Irish, English and (tips hat) Nor'n Irish breakfasts, and the notion of a "continental" breakfast ?

And yes, I know that if these were as "traditional" as we'd have the tourists believe that we'd all be 50-stone plus, but just curious.

    a fry..

orange juice just gives me heartburn

That's a good-looking fry my man. I'm a brown sauce man myself. Also I wouldn't consider a fry to be worthy of the name if it didn't result in shocking heartburn.:pac:

Also, you have to have the 'shrooms. They're what elevate a good fry to the status of a great fry.

Stalks removed, gently parboiled, then tossed in the pan for a bit, with a bit of fresh sage and indeed, if circumstances permit, some garlic - is that what you mean? If so, I'm in.

Jaysus no! Wouldn't ruin a roll with it either!

Ketchup is for hot dogs or McDonald's-style fries, nothing more.
dunking toast with butter into a soft egg with ketchup on it is delicious,

also a fry without beans is not a fry in my eyes,it can all go in between two slices of toast then and its a sandwich..the beans make the fry :)

    I'm not that much of a gourmet I'm afraid, and I don't like garlic.:o

Once it's flats rather than button mushrooms, I'm happy.:D

was a place in galway years ago that cooked the mushrooms for the fry in milk, butter, and black pepper... yum..

the fry jsut doesn't count without the beans, so many places don't add something so cheap?

That's one of the exact reasons I hate beans on a fry - because they are used as a cheap filler. Instead of adding a few delicious mushrooms or some extra sumptous pork products, you get all these places that just fill half the plate with a slithery mess of cheapo beans.

A good breakfast can be one of the nicest meals you can have, breaks my heart to see a lovely fry defiled by beans.

I used to buy packs of tomatoes and eat them apples for a while... Everyday lately, I get a BLT or meatballs wrapped in tomatoe. The latter being supercheap street food.

    Fried tomatoes are fuking amazing.

My sister-in-law does em like that. Not bad at all.
Speaking of Galway, there was a place there that used to chop up the pork bits (sausies and rashers), fry em up with onions and serve in a baguette with relish.
Sounds ho hum but it was seriously good. And once again, I haven't been able to reproduce it, simple and all as it was. :(
I have a theory that a fry up tastes better if you don't have to knock it out yourself. Nothing like having it slapped down in front of you.

It's popular in Leitrim, Cavan Longford type area and is a spud based food. flour, salt, raw spud mashed spuds. I think thats it. A bit of milk if you are that way inclined.

It's in all the shops down here. Could never get it in Dublin and the Jackeens hadn't a clue what i was talking about.:D

Never seen anything replace by beans, actually walked around dublin for a whole morning looking for the best breakfast, couldnt find any complete ones at allll and had to go into one and make them add mushrooms, not on the menu.

Fry the tomatoes first when the oil is clean and then keep them warm under the grill while you do the rest.

The best fry I have had is in a Cafe in Donegal (not in N Ireland but still part of Ulster for those who still dont quite get it ). They call it 'The Big Breakfast'

2 sausage, 2 bacon, fried egg, 2 hash browns, beans, fried potato, toast, tea, and orange juice. Some tattie or soda bread would make it the perfect fry.

That sounds about right. I hate egg though so I'd go a tomato instead or potato bread if on offer. Soda bread is too nice to go with a fry, better with tea and Kerrygold butter.

Wait a sec, there is no black & white pudding in there.

    Fried potatoes? That's disgusting.

    I love sautéed ones though.

new season spuds are the best, a few left over from dinner, slice and fry the next day, bliss

Here is a proper fry in my opinion

    2 sausage
2 bacon either rasher or bacon roll
    fried egg
    black and white pudding
    mushrooms
    beans
    boxty and/or potato bread
    toast
fried potato if any left from day before mix a little onion in it - Savage :D

tomatoes are a no no no no no

and lads that have chips with their brekkie, would ye go away outta that

Tomatoes make a fry feel healthy, bit of delusion to go with my grease-just how it should be.

It was like reading an erotic novel only to find out that the woman was a tranny. Ketchup has no place in my fry along with beans. Lots of buttered toast to add to that salty bliss.

Can't go wrong with a bit of mustard though

Coleman's English is very strong but French's American is where it's at!

Sausages and mustard, licking my lips

Proper sausages too like Shaws. None of these cheap ****e full of fillers.
You get what you pay for when you buy cheap sausages
