Marketing 101: Razors and Blades method of sales -

Sell the razor at a loss, make it up on the essential accessory - the blade

Same thing is generally done for video game consoles with games

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freebie_marketing

Inkjet printers and ink is done the same way also

I used the Aldi razor and blades for a while, after I decided not to pay ridiculous money for Gilette or Wilkinson stuff, I bought their razor a while ago and bought the 5-pack of blades regularly, they used to be 3.49, now 2.49 I think, they're okay but they don't last too long and my skin feels like it's been shaved with a paint scraper.
This twin or treble or five-blade sh!te is just that. Sh!te. Mach 3 Turbo crap.
Try DE shaving and you will know the difference. And bin the shaving gels and foams in the can. It's 'coz you're worth it'.:D

    What's de shaving?

Price of blades are about the same down in Oz too, bloody ripoff

Don't buy them on ebay anyways, I got a great deal on Mach3 blades a while back, 60 blades for about 20 notes and they were fake. The boxes and the blades were perfect looking, though wouldn't shave through shite.

They're not really doing that either though, that plastic razor cost no more than a few cents to make so their getting huge profit for razor handle and obscene profit for blades.

Freebie Marketing or Captive Marketing is the type of business model where they sell you the initial product for close to cost price, and sell the refills/top ups for a very over inflated profit margin.

It is favoured by Razor blade manufacturers, games consoles manufacturers and printer manufacturers. I'm sure you could probably name another few industries that use this type of marketing off hand.

EDIT: Someone else posted it before me :)

After property and banking Razors are the biggest feckin racket going.

Every couple of years Gillette bring out a new (more expensive) type of blade and heavily advertise it. Over the course of the next few months the quality of their older products gradually deteriorates forcing consumers into an upgrade cycle.

Theyre worse than bleedin microsoft FFS !

You can still get Gillette DE blades. The blue 2 is still being sold despite coming out in the mid 80's. I hate their marketing, but they still offer the old stuff to people. Microsoft is worse imo.
