The lizard people want us all to grow beards, and want the ladies to have hairy legs. This makes the rich easily identifiable by the mole people, and thus makes their eventual ousting of the illuminati that much simpler.

Because you want your mac 55 blades sh!te. Bag of disposables is a fiver, double sided razor 10 euro, replacement blades a euro for a pile.

I know someone from a company in tip who makes or made these, they were sold in company shop for less than €1 yet the shops charged at least 8 times the price - so he told me, I don't know. But they will charge if people are willing to pay?

Tesco disposible razors, they're the biz!
One of the better products from Tesco brand

And far superior to those yellow Bic razors. Shred the face off you. Bic make good pens but god awful razors!

I remember reading somewhere that razor blades are one of the most robbed items from supermarkets. Obviously due to the price

Shaving.ie would be the best place. They have starter kits which include razor, soap, samples of different blade brands, badger hair brush, alum and septic stick.

    Starter Kits

Considering it is a cut-throat business you would reckon they would be cheaper.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 94 ✭✭Lcronin2011

i can never understand why they are so expensive either! i was buying some recently and you could get 4 rasors for 12.00, or 3 disposable for 3.95? i went for the diposables ones coz they were cheaper but i dont see the difference between them??
Oh and to clarify they were both the same brand, Venus!!

This right here, if people are retarded enough to keep paying over the odds then that price becomes the odds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,220 ✭✭✭jos28

They are so expensive because you are paying for very expensive adverts with poncey footballers who get exorbitant amounts of money for making an appearance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,062 ✭✭✭Uriel.

DE razors are the only way to go to be honest. Blades are so cheap in comparison with the Crappy Gillette and wilkinson sword sh1te razors and they are a far superior shave also

Quite correct. It's because they're robbed that the retailer has to overcharge to compensate for what he knows is going to be 'lost' & it's because they're so dear that they're robbed. Go figure.

Get over to the facial hair and hats forum and check out mantic's videos on YouTube before you jump into this. It's a different way of shaving and requires a lot of practice and technique etc

Took the leap to safety razors few weeks back and havnt looked back, absolutely amazing shave from them, the whole kit is expensive but will last you a life time since the blades are dirt cheap you will save in the long run. Recommend shaving.ie class site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭Rumple Fugly

Like most men I'm sick of buying expensive blades that don't seem to stay sharp for very long, so about 4 months ago i was in my local chemist and saw one of these Wilkinson Sword DE razors, really cheap too so i thought I'd chance it.

Think it only cost about €5.50 and it had five blades included, so happy days.

It does take slightly longer to shave with one of these but well worth the effort. I'm only on my 4th blade so they last a decent amount of time, and I get pretty heavy growth!

Bought a brush and some cream online so these add a bit to the overall cost but they're not really essential, just thought I'd go the whole hog!

Definitely won't be going back to the rip off cartridge blades. Five blades for my new DE razor is about €2 in the shops and even cheaper online.

Would totally recommend this kind of razor to everyone. :D

Started using DE blades myself about 3 weeks ago. Ordered razor, brush, cream, and a sample pack of various blades to try from shaving.ie.
I find it very good and I won't be going back to mach 3 or fussion ever again.
Blades are a fraction of the cost and a better shave now...

I haven't shaved with a razor in over 10 years.

    Couldn't be arsed.

Probably saved a small fortune too, by the sounds of it.

no idea, coz they can get away with it?

never found the expensive ones much better than 10 for a euro jobby

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,062 ✭✭✭number10a

Aldi's ones are grand! 10 blades for about €3. At that price you can use one per shave!

+1 for DE razors. I want to learn how to use a straight though. Can't really stick it to the man than by using a disposable. Straight is the way forward from the outset. One blade = last a lifetime. Not really good for the industry.

I've always wondered why blades were so expensive myself. I switched to DE shaving early last year and haven't looked back. The blades are very cheap to buy and there's loads of different brands you can experiment with. Might as well give shaving.ie a plug while I'm here, excellent service!

Load of nonsense. The retailer just adds margin to the manufacturer price, they don't charge a special high margin for razor blades. The simple fact is the big two (Gilette and Schick/Wilkinson Sword) are an effective duopoly so they can pretty much charge what they like so long as they keep up their huge (and I mean HUGE) marketing budgets to block out competition. Its very difficult for a new entrant to gain access to the market without a marketing and distribution budget in the billions of dollars. Its the marketing budget you're paying for, not the cost to manufacture the blades.

Case in point. KoS "Azor" blades last longer, give a better shave and are cheaper than the equivalent Gilette blades but they have a fraction of the marketing spend so find it hard to get supermarket distribution. You can't find 'em, you can't buy 'em.

I'm more worried about the excessive escalation of razor marketing hyperbole.

Surely they are going to reach the ceiling soon?

How much more supersonic/turbo/16-double-blade/Mach-176 can a plastic-mounted blade designed for cutting off your bum-fluff get?

It's surely time for détente between the razor companies before it's too late and our children have to shave with a blowtorch and meat cleaver like Desperate Dan.

These DE razors have me interested now as never even considered them. Are they hard to get the hang of? in other words for a few weeks would you be walking around with little blood soaked pieces of tissue on your face
