IS it true you get mandatory £10 top up with the phone?

If so, my friend who may be picking it up is Orange. Is there any way she can get that credit?

Anyway to keep the wifi connected, it drops when the screen turns off even though the wifi sleep policy is set to never. Swedish Spring Rom btw

Doesn't quite sound right... Mind always reconnects without any issues, it's the fact that it goes off while the phone is locked which is annoying!

Have that installed but it makes no difference, you having the same problem tman?

Have either of you got a fix for this problem?

My son got one of these recently and asked me to unlock it root it and put a custom rom on it. No mean task for someone who knows zilch about Android. Anyway I unlocked it and rooted it thanks to this tutorial http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/android/how-to-root-the-orange-san-francisco-zte-blade/
when I came to install the custom rom it went well up to step 31 after that the responses on the phone weren't the same as the tutorial. I have re-rooted it as suggested in the tutorial and the app is telling me it is rooted successfully but when I get to "open recovery manager", the only options are clear cache or uninstall, none of the steps from 32 on are there. Any ideas?

Thanks for that, I managed to install Swedish Spring. It's a bit nerve wracking doing it on someone elses phone especially when you don't know what you are doing, although I must say that tutorial is excellent.

Blade Wifi Fix from the Market?

Last night I tried the fix recommended above and it connects to the Wifi when I wake the phone up, that's a big improvement from what I had but...... am I incorrect in thinking that the Wifi should stay running in the background even when the phone if locked and asleep?

Exactly, I've it set to never disconnect, it still does though. My own Galaxy stays connected as did my old HTC, this Blade doesn't but it could just be the Swedish Spring rom. I've that Blade wifi fix installed since the first day, it doesn't stop it disconnecting, not sure what it does, if anything

Download it on your pc and transfer it to the phone over usb, then browse to the file on your phone with your phones file explorer. I had trouble downloading this file with the phone also. I got all the files on my desktop and then transferred them all with usb, right clicking on the files and selecting send to removable device is fine.

Thats what I did. I could'nt get a link via the phone as the damn thing was redirecting me to Orangeworld:(. The only Explorer I can find on the phone is Filer. That brings up whats on the card. Tab on any of them and that message comes up. The only thing tha tworked when I downloaded it was Ask Mr Pigfish and that told me the phone is Gen 1.

use Astro file manager from the market

Thanks for that. It worked a treat. Have downloaded and successfully installed everything as per the orangesanfrancisco site instructions. However, the recoveryM.apk file will not open I get the message " SORRY.The application Recovery Manager (process com.podtwo.Recovery Manager) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." It then gives the option Force Close. I followed the Troubleshooting instructions and re unrooted and cleared the cache. I have uninstalled and redownloaded to no avail.I know I'm very close to the end and am now wondering where to go:confused:

Tonight I decided to uninstall everything and reboot into the Orange menu. Stuck my Justmobile card in for free internet:D and downloaded and installed everything as per orangesanfrancisco. Everything went swimmingly, even Recovery Manager opened:). However RM will not install anything for me. Gives me an error "You need to install a custom recovery before you can install a new firmware". when I tab on the Recovery tab It will not install clock.img from the sd card. Gives an error message"Currently installed Recovery: Unrecognised" . The version is v0.34beta. I'm wondering if there's a bug in the beta version that does not recognise the img files:confused:.

Have you tried updating the database within Recovery Manager? (Menu -> Update database)

Hi, you want to keep WiFi on, regardless of sleep?

Try this, free from Market, it also works with Blade WiFi fix:

    https://market.android.com/details?id=opotech.advancedwifilockfree
It doesn't interfere with blade wifi fix, so you can use them both alongside eachother. e.g. if you decide to temporarily disable advanced wifi lock, then blade wifi fix will take over.

@ shadowninty & Twiki. Thanks very much for you very helpful suggestions. After I posted last night, I searched the Modaco site in a further effort to get things right and found a file called Recovery-Clockwork-2.5.2.3-blade.img. I downloaded it and lo and behold RM recognised it and finally went on to install Swedish Spring:):):). I rebooted and hey presto! Success:D:D:D. Absolutely great to have gotten rid of that Orange rubbish, even if it kept me up till 2.15am:eek:
