Ford Focus 1.4 Cambelt Timing Trouble!!

    Hi all im new to the forum and having a bad day :( i put the head back on a ford focus 1.4 z-tech T - reg that somebody else has taken apart, and when it came to putting the cambelt back together there are not any marks to indicate the timing marks on any of the pullys or on the block itself :eek: anybody know the best way to get it timed up? Thanks:)

    Hi..there are no timing marks on the pulleys..you need a timing kit.
    There is a bolt at the rear of the block that you remove and insert a
    crankshaft pin that stops the crankshaft at TDC.
    There is also a camshaft locking tool to slot into the 2 slots at rear of
    camshafts.

    Borrow the kit from someone if you can it's pretty dear I think..

    turn the camshafts till the slots at the back or level with the top of the head then slip in a straight edge like a long spanner , flat file bit of steel.then you can take out spark in cyl 1 and turn till piston is at top use dipstick or something similar.keep it like this put your belt on bobs your uncle

    Unless you are using a proper TDC gauge, that is a very inaccurate way to do it.

    I guarantee you if you went back and just timed them up for the craic using the special tools, you'd be out a decent bit.
