I rarely shop in Superquinn because there is so few of them and none close by, but I must say, their food is great. Seems that bit fresher and tastier than elsewhere.

The whole "Superquinn is really expensive" thing is a myth. I can easily get enough food for myself for a week on €30 - €35. Unlike Tesco, it's actually decent quality too - even their own brand stuff.

I use to love the free samples in Superquinn as a kid, used to run up and pretend that they didn't already give me a mini quiche! :D

Seriously, anyone who's ever been to Tesco in Rathfarnham will understand what I mean.

They do particularly unhealthy, and therefore delish jam donuts.

ill just miss the bakery section, meat can be got from any butcher.

This, bakery beats anything else out there. Doughnuts, pancakes, and cream sponge cakes are amazing...brother works in the bakery so loads of freebies...he might miss it too.

I love superquinn, lucan is my local. Their fresh meat/fish makes tescos look like dog food. Some of their own brand stuff is delcious too.

Yeah, Superquinn Lucan is better than Tesco Lucan/Dodsborough for fresh meats/veg/fruit.
Most of the Tesco stock seems to be shipped from the North/UK and not as fresh. Any "specials" in Tesco are usually short-dated, and Tesco treats their staff like shit.

Tesco are typically cheaper though, especially for wines, while Superquinn are typically at least a few Euro dearer per bottle.

It's not going to the wall, just a possible change of owner ship, there's rumors Musgraves are intrested.

I grew up in Bray and the Superquinn there was filthy! It was only years later that I learned that they have a reputation for being the "posh" supermarket. I was shocked!

I live across the road from a Superquinn select store now and if I had to choose I would take it (or Dunnes) over Tesco any day. :D

The closest Superquinn to me is 30 miles away so I wouldn't miss it one bit if they were closed down.

    Sexiest. cheese. ever.

I always shop in Lidl/Tesco and pop into Superquinn/M&S once every blue moon for a few treats. Its nice to have a bitta posh every now and again. And they do really cheap Limoncello aswell.

I'd miss it because it's just around the corner. . .dunnes, aldi and lidl are a whole 3.5 minute drive away

Superquinn is a bit of an institution here in Walkinstown, it's almost as well known a landmark as the roundabout (that everyone not from here seems to be afraid of!), i'm sure it would be missed by a decent proportion of locals
To be honest, quite a lot of the staff in the Walkinstown branch have rotten attitudes, especially towards younger people who shop there. Would not miss this aspect. However, I'd miss their brown soda bread, which is simply the sex! Yum!

Always a Superquinn fan myself. Always found it just a much more pleasant shopping experience compared to the local tesco, because of the quality of the food, quality of the staff, intelligence of other customers, just everything really. M&S are decent enough but it's actually hard to find normal food that's not soaked in butter or other various heart attack inducing condiments. As such, I don't really consider M&S as somewhere that you can do a normal weekly shop.

LIDL/ALDI are fine, but again you can't get everything you need.

Contrary to popular belief, eating butter is not a heart attack waiting to happen.

    Superquinn owners deny seeking buyers

I used to work for SQ in a management role. When it was bought out by what amounted to a property consortium we all expected the new owners to redevelop sites, make as much as they could on property deals and get the place ready for a buyout from Asda. I believe a lot of the property deals planned didn't work out and obviously recent times have knocked that part on the head completely. If there's no value left in property I wouldn't be that surprised to see it sold now though despite denials linked to above.

Superquinn have locations all over Ireland

"All over Ireland" apparently doesn't include Cork, Kerry, Clare, Wexford, Kildare, Meath, Westmeath, Offaly, Louth, Longford or anywhere in Connaught or Ulster!

So no, won't miss them. The nearest one to me is in Limerick, apparently.
