    Really? Are we losing Superquinn?

I love Superquinn. There's something about it that's very open and nice to walk around. Love the cheese and meat counters. Not a cattle market like most other supermarkets.

I guess that's why it may be going out of business.

I'm hoping John Lewis buy it because then we'll get Waitrose, which is way better.

I live in a small town in the country side - so nope, I won't miss it and loads of others do sausages that are just as good if not better.

I love superquinn, lucan is my local. Their fresh meat/fish makes tescos look like dog food. Some of their own brand stuff is delcious too.

Due to being from the very scrapings of the lower classes, i have only shopped in superquinn maybe 2 or 3 times, i fail to see what the fuss is about - it's just Dunnes, but dearer.
Also the sausages are very much overated - give me olhausens over superquinn sausages any day!

I'd miss Superquinn Gur cakes. You could build a house out of those things. A delicious edible house.

Also, all the people who work near one and frequently have to get a cake for a colleagues wedding/baby birth/birthday/new car celebrations would miss them. The most common reason for going to Superquinn must be for buying unplanned large cakes.

Love Superquinn too. Can rarely afford to shop there though. I echo what you say about their meat and fish counters and would add the bakery is fab too. They lay out their stores very well and you don't get that depressing vibe like you would in Tesco, but financially this is where I am forced to do my shopping.

Their pricing is way out of kilter though.

I'd miss it because it's just around the corner. . .dunnes, aldi and lidl are a whole 3.5 minute drive away

Superquinn is a bit of an institution here in Walkinstown, it's almost as well known a landmark as the roundabout (that everyone not from here seems to be afraid of!), i'm sure it would be missed by a decent proportion of locals

I'm from Tallaght & work in Ballymun so i never see a Superquinn as it is!!

So to answer your question no!

Who says they're being sold ? Where did this come from ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,969 ✭✭✭hardCopy

I shall fill my deep freeze with sausages and sell them in years to come at an extortionate mark-up.

They have by far the best selection of fruit and veg.

There freshly baked bread, scones, cakes etc. are also the bomb.

I for one will miss them if they go.

They do particularly unhealthy, and therefore delish jam donuts.

ill just miss the bakery section, meat can be got from any butcher.

Always a Superquinn fan myself. Always found it just a much more pleasant shopping experience compared to the local tesco, because of the quality of the food, quality of the staff, intelligence of other customers, just everything really. M&S are decent enough but it's actually hard to find normal food that's not soaked in butter or other various heart attack inducing condiments. As such, I don't really consider M&S as somewhere that you can do a normal weekly shop.

LIDL/ALDI are fine, but again you can't get everything you need.

There have been loads of rumours, always denied.

As has been pointed out, they owe lots of money and are attempting to refinance.

I think they went downhill when Fergal sold out.
