Are bicycles allowed on commuter rail?

    I know they are allowed for free on the Galway to limerick line but I was just wondering if they are allowed on other commuter services for free? And if you were allowed to bring a bike on board for free would you be more inclined to use the train to commute to work? kinda a pain when you're only option is the bus and you have to walk for ages to work or college once you reach your stop, bringing a bike along would be so handy.

    Actually you can bring them on commuter services but only during off peak hours.

    According to http://www.irishrail.ie/your_journey/bicycle_information.asp: "Bicycles are allowed on Commuter and Dart services between 10:00 and 15:30 and after 19:00 Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday."

    no they arent...they are too slow to keep ahead of the trains and tend to get their wheels caught in the points. Should be OK on the WRC though, due to the slower speeds and less frequent servicethere..we'll get Westtip down there to test it out....

    Ya but they use commuter railcars....... it's level with the platform as far as i know so it's way easier than intercity trains that have steps and are awkward with bikes.

    Use a fold up bike and put it in a bag. How are they to know.
