One of the safest Boroughs of London (Barnet) also has the dodgiest area I have ever been in London. Dealers outside the shops at half eight in the morning selling to the school kids.

Grahame Park estate, couple of miles from Met Police training centre in Hendon. F*ckin scary hole of a place back in the late 90s.

May I suggest to anyone that thinks London is dodgy. Get on a nightbus home from the westend. Majority of people on the bus will be Londoners or living in London. The atmosphere is always upbeat, strangers talk to each other and say bye to you when you alight in Peckham.

I dunno how anyone could put London down. parks, swimming pools, museums, theatres, street entertaiment, i could go on and on........

    I wanna go home :(:(:(

South Peckham or Bermondsey, have cousins living in both of these places and have stayed with them for a few weeks over the years, some of the stuff that goes on is ridiculous. One of his mates was an unofficial taxi driver and he used to chaffuer unsuspecting tourists around in a stolen car every night!

Remember one other night the fella nextdoor had a heart attack, and the ambulance crew wouldn't come in til the police arrived cos another crew was lured in and attacked the night before, and only one policeman turned up at first so they had to wait for another patrol car,was mad, fella survived though fortunately.

Also hate the way everbody says bruv!

I was led to believe from watching Harry Brown and Kidulthood and listening to people like N-Dubz and So Solid Crew that London was like South Central LA with machine guns and crack everywhere and stuff. Guess not.

As far as I remember Edmonton in east london has the highest rate of stabbings in the London.

Edmonton is North London, East London has enough problems without this kip.

Strangely enough some parts of East London are enjoying a bit of a resurgence and becoming quite "trendy".

God only know's why though, by and large east london is as grim as it comes.

In terms of worst place in London, Wembley wins hands down.

    No, there wasn't.

Should have included 'at one period' in my post to give context.

So yes, at one stage last year I distinctly remember there being at least one shooting per week in Finglas.

Not bothered to trawl through rte.ie to prove it to you, but it happened.

What's Tottenham like these days? I've only been the once but I've a lot of relatives who used to live there and they said it was a pretty sketchy spot (we're talking late 80's-mid 90's here).
    Tottenham is rough as fcuk.

Do all of of the scum look the same? I knew this fella from London before, shaved head, appearently he had some black in his distant family, he had big thick eyebrows and brown eyes. He looked like this fella:

    http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/12/03/article-0-06BCA59F000005DC-550_233x370.jpg

I saw a Blu-Ray movie called "Adulthood" (from 2008) A fella got released from jail/youth prison and appearently snitched or something, a fella was hired to kill him but he found out his target was his brother. Anyway one of the lead fellas from the movie looked similar to the guy from the pic above, and the fella I know. Plus with the shaved head he had the usual tracksuit bottom with boots.

Why oh why do some people try to say that London is so good, when in fact it's just not. It has fantastic parks, yes. There are so many better parks in the world, for example in New York, Melbourne, Montreal, Dublin. Theatres - no one goes to the theatre every week.. once a few months max, no loss if theres nothing on in the city you live in.

Swimming Pools? really?? there's a Lido in Tooting Bec - woo!!

It's like some people who are stuck in London get all defensive about it, even Dara O'Brian was trying to stick up for it in an Irish paper recently ('yes people are ignorant on the tube, if you don't like it, London's not for you' - pfft!)

I am living in London, been here over 2 years and prior to that I was just outside in Surrey.. While I have been having fun, I have also traveled around the world and I know for a fact that, while reasonably fun (the good slightly outweighs the bad), there are many many many better places to live in our world. Why not live in a place where the good outweighs the bad my 99:1??

London is the 53rd most liable city in the world, in 2 months time I'm moving to the 2nd most livable city :D

I'm going to list some of the parts of London I find particularly grim, mostly in the north and east...

    Leyton,
    Edmonton,
    Tottenham,
    Finsbury Park,
    King's Cross,
    Hackney,
    Shoreditch,
    Homerton,
    Barking,
    Dagenham...

And that's just covering a quarter of Greater London. It makes me glad to be out of it.

    Oh right, fair enough.

There was me thinking it was one of the most diverse, famous, iconic, influencial, and vibrant cities around.

Of course it has horrible areas. Every metropolis in the world has huge numbers of people living in very poor and rather unsafe surroundings. Sadly London is no different to the likes of New York, Paris, Los Angeles etc, but it doesn't mean it just "isn't good".

She's probably one person, but who knows?

Anyway I said 'some' people, as in her and also some other people I have heard, but not on this thread.

London is full of Fookin Foreigners

That is why one likes it , every nationality and culture on you doorstep, very little inbreeding (except for the east end, but they is all paddies)

A Transport system that is getting there

And the biggy , one can always find work

ah no it's still 'good', but not 'so good' if you get me!

I just think people go on about it like it's much better than it is. Commuting is horrific, people are grumpy (it's made me a bit grumpy), it's expensive.. yeah it's good craic for a few years but I'm just sick of it at this stage, and even though I'll miss it, I'll be glad to go. No more looking at horrible high rises and rough, intimidating chav teen gangs, frowning commuters and grim suburbs..

    Also, Croydon = kip!

What's with all the digs at me???? Find it a bit strange that some people don't like the fact that I am proud of the amazing city that I was born and raised in. No offence Lima, but you are raving about other cities, why not talk about your own eh??

New York, Paris, Peckham isn't on the side of Del Boys Reliant for nothing you know!

Parks are in abundance, well maintained. Look at Greenwich Park it has great views, the observatory, the meridian line. Hyde Park - The Serpentine. Regents park - London Zoo. Every postcode in London I am pretty sure has a decent enough sized park.

Museums and Galleries galore most of which are free. You can go to the theatre every night of the week and see something different. Why are premieres held in London so often?

Had to be some attraction that led you there

Near Wembley is Stonebridge Park, I wouldn't even stop at a red light after dark near there, and I have lived in Leyton & East Ham.

Sorry I didn't mean to take a dig at you personally, I assumed you were one of the 100's of Irish who head over from Ireland after college to work in London and then go on about it like it's the best city in the world, even though they have never been out of UK&I.. I'm not a career-head but I just kind of ended up here in a career so I'm a bit grumpy as it was never part of the plan..

Totally different if you are from there! Sure I still think Dublin is only deadly!

Bunch of pussies, Chalk Hill was better, even the Engerland fans never walked through the Chalk Hill

90% of the people on both estates were trying to get on with their lives, the reputation of both places was OTT

Any football fans who've ever gone to the den as an away fan (bermondsey) will know that that tunnel is quite possibly the most intimidating part of London you could find yourself in.

    Isn't that millwalls stadium?

    That was me,

    I'm still here, Loving you..

    Until we meet again. "
