As far as I remember Edmonton in east london has the highest rate of stabbings in the London.

Got off at Bow road by mistake once and saw some nice drug dealing in the 3 minutes I was there.
Wood Green scared the crap out of me.
    Seven sisters is pretty grim.
A friend of mine lives in E17 and I freaked out one night after hearing someone had been stabbed to death. Couldn't rest until I knew it wasn't him.

Some definite crap holes worth avoiding alright.

Can't say I've ever been, but Shoreditch sounds like a right shi-tsole.

Take a spin along the Old Kent Road and you'll see why it is the cheapest property on a Monopoly board.

You forgot to mention "run like hell!", that being an important part of city-life.

Why is everyone picking on Peckham ?????

That's where I was brought up and I got through the riots just fine. Knew the neighbours, played out in the evenings, said hello to the market traders.

Went to school in Lewisham. Came out of school just fine. 6 Science labs, 5 music rooms, 2 gyms, use of Crystal Palace olympic size pool and track.

Worked in Brixton and came home on the bus (through the riots) with my wages still in my pocket.

Went to Dublin - Got my bag nicked
Was in Cranmore, Sligo - Got followed
If I go to Limerick - Who know what could happen

Any football fans who've ever gone to the den as an away fan (bermondsey) will know that that tunnel is quite possibly the most intimidating part of London you could find yourself in.

Theres a pub near Upton Park called the prince of wales which I thought I was going to die in.

Kentish Town is a tad depressing, as mentioned earlier Hackney is hugely depressing.

I've never had any major problems in London aside from that

Crap! Us Millwall fans are pussycats :P

Too many to mention .There are a lot of nice areas though in fairness .I used to live on the borders of Crouch end and Highgate in North London .A really nice area .Within walking distance of Holloway Road which was /is very Irish .

I lived in London for 7+ years and agree that every city has its goods and bad, the upsides of living in London outweigh the downsides by quite a distance, as long as you have cash.

Whoever said Wood Green really needs to get out more, nothing wrong with Wood Green at all, close to Ally Pally on a good tube service and a bus ride to White Hart Lane, what more could a man want in life??

No way!!! Always went there for lunch when I worked on Upper Holloway Road.

Also remember trekking over to the Mean Fiddler on a Sunday afternoon.....Good Times :)

What's Tottenham like these days? I've only been the once but I've a lot of relatives who used to live there and they said it was a pretty sketchy spot (we're talking late 80's-mid 90's here).

The high road is ok. White hart lane should be levelled but apart from that it seems alright

Think I'm just too sheltered! :o
My best mate studied there for a year and he didn't have any bother in fairness.
I just felt kind of intimidated being a lass and all.

    I found wood green alright.

Seven sisters isnt that bad either. There is a lot worse in London than seven sisters I think. As some one mentioned earlier the pros very much outweigh the cons in London

    Shenanigans.

Unless you were frequenting Southhill, St Mary's or Weston then that's absolute shite you're talking. You'd have no reason to go into those areas unless [a] You had relatives there or You were looking for gear/yokes/whatever. A positive answer to either one of those means you should know what to expect.

The violence in Limerick is all localised for the most part, the stab city thing is a comfortable myth perpetuated by the media when in reality its far from true. There was one guy being shot a week in Finglas when I was working in Dublin yet no 'Wild Wild East' headlines.

I've spent 4 years in Uni in Limerick, live in Galway and worked in Dublin for a year and out of the three Galway is the one place where I've been/nearly been in more fights and felt threatened. Check out Supermacs @ 3am if you want to genuinely feel threatened.

On topic; went to a pub in Circklewood... didn't stay too long.

    No, there wasn't.

As to the OP - Bermondsey is rough. For the most part London is quite safe.

Oh, I'm sure there is...just found it fairly dreary.
Might have been my state of mind.
I'm nearly 3 years living here now and I still haven't seen the half of it.
Love the place to bits....I think you just need to find places you feel good in.

Top end of Holloway Road. Upper Holloway train station few mins walk away and Archway tube few mins walk away too.

And as a Millwall supporter I wasn't very welcome near the Highbury end :D

I had friends who lived at opposite ends of WG one towards Ally Pally and the others towards Palmers Green (Good Irish pub up that way iirc) so I used to be up that way a lot, I liked the hint of grime on the fringes of respectability, Crouch End is only down the road and that's proper posh.

I understand the bird alone at night thing, but tbh I think that's true of pretty much every part of every city.

I live between Brixton and Clapham and a 5 year old got shot 2 min from my flat.. so basically I turn left and not right when walking out of my flat..

    Undoubtedly a touch drab.
