What are DE razors Mr Panda?

DE razors are Diamond Enamelled razors that are made in Costa Rica and work by placing a fine grain of diamond dust on the edge of the razor....
    Double Edge

....Oh, someone already answered that question.....never mind.

The main thing to remember when using a DE razor is to take your time, and don't press it too hard to your face.
There are loads of videos on YouTube.
    Oh and shaving.ie +1

This better not be a porn site lads, I'm at work here.....

Why are they so expensive ?? Because they depend on all us mugs to spend our money without asking any questions !!! And if we do they blaim it on high wages, high energy costs, high distribution costs or whatever they can dream up next !

Why is stuff in a well known , multi-national DIY store anything up to 4 times more expensive here as it is in their stores 100 miles north of Dublin?

Aldi disposable razors are excellent and cheap as chips. It's just all the fancy ads that have us convinced to spend a fortune on Gillette etc.

I too grew tired of paying €9,000 for three blades last year so made my way over to the Facial Hair and Hats forum, got some advice from the lads there, went online to shaving.ie, spent about €90 and had my full shaving kit. A Merkur Progress, badger hair brush, Proraso shaving soap, a blade sample pack and other bits and pieces. It really is deadly. Shaving feels lke a fun event!

I've been growing a beard for the last month or two so just maintaining it with a trimmer so my shaving gear hasn't been used in a while but when I do go back to shaving, that's the stuff I'll be using again.

The only downside is that it's not really possible to have a quick shave but if that's not a worry for you, go for it. You buy the gear once. Everything is really good value and the replacement blades are dirt cheap.

Where is this €9,000 figure coming from.

They can be. But you just have to be patient. No in a few weeks you shouldn't be going around with blood tissues on your face,
If you get the kit on shaving.ie you get a Styptic pencil with it. No need for tissues just rub that stick on your face and it puts a stop to bleeding, the only problem is once it drys it looks like you've been savaging a powdered bun.

I really like the way you don't need to strim down any beard growth before you shave you can just shave of any beard growth with the razor.

Shaving.ie would be the best place. They have starter kits which include razor, soap, samples of different blade brands, badger hair brush, alum and septic stick.

    Starter Kits

What the fuck? I want to shave myself, not operate!

This right here, if people are retarded enough to keep paying over the odds then that price becomes the odds.

This my friend is true of so,so much in Ireland, especially over the last few years of course,Irish people just dont seem to give a **** about value, this is how we ended up paying a tenner for a sandwich and coffee *sighs* try bringing that up a few years back:rolleyes:

Anyway, another DE fan here,i bought one about a year ago

    Pros

Dirt cheap(well ok,after initial investment in a decent handle...i paid about 40 quid for a Merkur)blades are a tenner off Amazon for 100.....yes 100 for ten euro

Much less shaving rash(your only shaving the area the ampount of times you need to and not 15 times or however many are in the new Gillette razor)

    Cons

It does take longer......i also find it hard to shave my upper lip with them but ive never seen anyone else mention this maybe its just me?

I also got an Open razor a few weeks back for no other reason than i always wanted to try one, tenner for the handle and another tenner for 100 blades,i have enough blades to last for (literally)years, for 20 quid(for DE and Open)

Again,it takes longer with it and you have to be much, much more careful, but you get used to it

So there you go lads, for Gods sake dont bother with 8 euro for 4 blades anymore, its ridiculous, tenner for 100 DE or Open blade off Amazon

Must try Shaving.ie actually, seems to have its fans here

A styptic stick/pencil. A septic stick sounds like something ya might get if ya don't- to quote Jeremy Kyle- put something on the end of it! :D

Looks good alright. Too late though, I've bought myself a DE razor the other day from shaving.ie, haven't received it in the post yet but by all accounts it's the best shave so I'll give it a go. I might have tried the sharpener alright if I'd known beforehand, but not now.

I bought myself the Muhle R89 DE razor, after I read reviews of different razor models on shaving.ie, and I gotta say it's more than worth the money, real quality and a great shave. If you're going to try a DE razor, have a look at these reviews too. http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=74846

Well it's definitely worth it, I got it thru shaving.ie, didn't take long to arrive and at 29.95 euro not bad at all, you'll see when ya feel the quality of it. I got two packs of blades as well, packs of ten at 1.50 a pack.
    That's more like it.
I went for the Muhle R89 because everyone who's got one heartily recommends it, and because it's made by a small family run company with an old fashioned attitude to customers, i.e. they treat them well.
You'll see from the reviews in the link I posted and on shaving.ie.
    Good luck with it.

Aldi do a decent set of razors. for five euro you get five blades and a razor or ten blades for a fiver. Many of you it seems have been sold on this bull about the "latest technology" Lazerrs and turbo blades and sensitive blades. I have sensitive skin the aldi blades do just fine but if you want to keep funding tiger woods and the ads and be ripped off-be my guest!!:)

I feel rather proud of this thread for professing my DE ideology for Razors. I was wondering how many posts it would take for someone to mention it. Just think about it this way, 1 blade is better for shaving than the 5 or so that Gillette offer....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,705 ✭✭✭Johro

By the way, there's loads of different brands of blades to try, have a look round the site to see what other people say. By all accounts the Japanese 'Feather' blades are really really sharp and ya probably shouldn't get them til you're a bit more familiar with DE shaving.
I went with the 'Astra Superior Platinum', 1.50 for pack of ten, supposed to be good with my razor but try a few different ones, they have sample packs, apparently different blades suit different people so experiment.
    You can at those prices.
You'll also want a brush and a shaving soap or creme, again, an excuse to try different ones.
I already had a brush and soap I got ages ago at Tesco's, they're Wilkinsons and they'll do fine for now, also they were cheap.
Buy yourself some nice stuff when you're a little more flush.;)

I used the Aldi razor and blades for a while, after I decided not to pay ridiculous money for Gilette or Wilkinson stuff, I bought their razor a while ago and bought the 5-pack of blades regularly, they used to be 3.49, now 2.49 I think, they're okay but they don't last too long and my skin feels like it's been shaved with a paint scraper.
This twin or treble or five-blade sh!te is just that. Sh!te. Mach 3 Turbo crap.
Try DE shaving and you will know the difference. And bin the shaving gels and foams in the can. It's 'coz you're worth it'.:D

Marketing 101: Razors and Blades method of sales -

Sell the razor at a loss, make it up on the essential accessory - the blade

Same thing is generally done for video game consoles with games
