Matching a reg no to a car

I was on micksgarage.ie looking for car parts and a reg checker came up on it. Popped in my reg number and up came the car type, model and engine cc.

Haven't seen this on any other websites. Is this something different or have all garages access to the National Vehicle File?

www.motorcheck.ie and www.cartell.ie will give you the same info. for free.

most up to date motor factors can pick parts from a reg number now too, the days of a counter with a rack full of massive books on it seem to be phasing out.

those books are very handy sometimes when you need something out of the ordinary, so to write them off completely would be a bad thing.

The chasis number is a more reliable method of finding the correct parts.
As said earlier that reg number lookup does not always have the correct info.

indeed, because the internet still goes down, as does the electricity from time to time amongst other things... its never straight forward working with parts :rolleyes:

These reg look ups are very handy for getting the actually details on a car, take a VW, all these use a engine code, 95% of people wouldn't have a clue where to look, but the reg look up can give these details.

As for looking up the actual parts, most motor factors use a web site called Tech Doc www.repexpert.com to find all parts.
